Cotswold 4x4 at Sapperton between Stroud and Cirencester (01285760484) are an independent specialist set up for P38s.
While you asked specifically for an independent specialist, you might be pleasantly surprised if you used the Fews L/R dealership at Charfield near Dursley.

If you are still looking then ....
I used to use Fews until I found the saviour of my life - Steve Hill. He is the ex chief mechanic at Hartwells Land Rover in Bristol until they closed it. He and his other half Jess now operate as a Land Rover specialist and Steve knows EVERYTHING there is to know.
I can't recommend him highly enough and most people in the area in the know rate him (including Fews if you can get them to be honest) the benefit of this is that a great number of dealers will count his service record as good as main stealers!

Ironically, a 'few' weeks after I posted the message mentioning Fews, they returned my P38 unserviced 
saying that they don't work on dual-fuel vehicles (despite having carried out the 3 prior services since LPG conversion without complaint!). Anyway - I WAS a happy customer!
Now looking forward to trying out Steve Hill's services as recommended by Stephen Gazard in his post above!

For anyone interested, I visited Steve Hill in Bristol today and have never
been to a better garage. Even if I didn't have a Land Rover, I'd probably still
take my car there.
Steve was superb and checked over my RR suspension, reset the ECU, tested
it over and did a leak check on the rear too, all for £35 inc VAT. Plus had a
nice cup of coffee and chat in the office, all from just turning up at random.
I didn't even book it in, I only went round to see when he could look at it!
Can't recommend them highly enough.

just turned up at steve hills place in brislington and he fitted me in and did the work i needed doing while i waited, had a good chat with the georgeous jess and a great cut of coffee, i will be using steve hill for all my landrover repairs and servicing, spotless workshop, reception and toilets.
