P38A P38 Rear Brake Discs and Pads Change....

As an addendum to saint's video.

when doing the brakes on the P38 check the slide pins and also the bellows. damage to the bellows allows water ingress and the slide pins will seize in

Very handy video. Had to do mine a while ago and was a ball ache from start to finish. The torx bit holding the disc on had been rounded off so impact driver was needed. Remember, anti-seize compound is your friend, should make it easier next time.

On the discussion of anti seize. I don’t use half as much as SV8 did. I’ve always been taught a smear is enough. No more. Wondered what consensus was here for LR?

Been a while but pretty certain my disks were held in by a posidrive screw. Need a punch to undo it. Always fit new on reassembly.

correct, they are. i bought 8 last time so have them in a bag ready for the next change. i also change out the M12 caliper bolts.

Nice video Ant:) well at least you know they are done properly now and don't have to worry about them for a good while:).

Ant will probably have the front cover off and the big ends out by new years eve.

and if he gets an extra 20 minutes he'll probably replace the head gaskets and the camshaft, give the engine a flush through and fabricate something to upgrade a notorious Land Rover weak point.

with a cup of tea being consumed in the timeframe

Jeez guys, it's basic simplistic brake work, why the JIzz?
Disappointed to see the girl'O'meter tbh.

This is raffia work, a la Casey Neistat

Er at about 52 seconds, is that a brake pad with no friction material at all left on it? I'm sure I saw a hole stright through it!!
Yep, if you read the comment I make at the end of the video - the previous owner told me he had the pads changed, I (stupidly) only looked through the alloy on the drivers side and the pads wher enice and fresh (as can be seen at the end of the vid where I compare the two sets of pads) so when it started grinding a few days ago, I was surprised (and annoyed) to see the passenger side had not been changed.

As above - I was a bit annoyed by the Previous Owners general lack of correct maintenance, I am finding evidence of this in some of my other jobs I have done so far - but to be fair I paid £1k for her and she is a Limited Edition with the County Pack fitted, LPG (which I had to fix too), new air bags all round (checked and all done correctly) along with all new front to rear brake lines (checked and receipt seen for the work)....so I am not overly annoyed and she runs a dream.

You know me oh so well Adam, I prefer a luke warm cup of coffee when working on Landys though :D

Sweep those leaves man!!!:eek::p
Far to lazy - and far to busy fixing the Landys for that!!

I have been watching Casey since he started his vlog in March 2015 and before then I was a fan of his film making and the HBO series he had with his Brother.

I also am a big fan of Ben Brown, Fun for Louis and Demolition Ranch / Off the Ranch.

What the F' is a girl'O'meter?

And yes, while it is simple work - you know as well as most, we do get asked how to some of the more basic maintenance tasks at times, so I am only trying to help out.....if you already know how to change pads and discs, well done to you, but for those who don't I hope it serves as a bit of reference as to the sort of steps needed to get the job done!

What a cūnts trick changing only the outside pads... Endangering lives?
Keep up the good work Saint.
Try a leaf blower maybe?:p

Changing the outside pads ! It's not as if pads for the p38 are expensive!

Wonder if the PO couldn't wind the piston in so just changed the outer.

still... it's less than half arsed job. But the upside is.. plenty to keep Saint busy

Hi @Saint.V8 , Nice vid.
As you say, handy for first timers. Nothing is quite as educational as a vid.
Not wishing to diss you so just a few (hopefully) constructive pointers...

1. new discs require degreasing with solvent (white spirits, meths, carb or brake cleaner)
2. if poss, undo the bleed nipple/s when retracting the caliper pistons
3. Labour the point of nice loose slide pins
4. Labour the point of nicely de-crusted carriers (pad seats)
4. Definitely use a girl O meter if you have one, otherwise, do em up F'ing tight like!

Did you clean hub face before fresh coppa smearing?

Keep em coming, I like your music.;)

My 'toob' musings are...Abom79, SV Seeker, AvE, This Old Tony, Clickspring,Pure Living for Life and Samson Boat Co, to name but a few.

Might not be your cup of tea, but if you quickly toob Abom79 , Clickspring and AvE then you might get the jist of the jest>>>>
