Try checking drivers door lock linkage I still think this could be mechanical Linkage related I think your door should unlock with the key even if you have no battery power Eka entry requires door lock working as linkage connects to micro switches etc
Very good info on this at rangerovers.net

It sounds to me as though the microswitch is sticking - the lock actuator has 3 micro switches one is for the sill button central locking one for door open and one for key lock - the key lock is operated by a rod directly to a lever which operates the switch - so the fact that the indicators are flashing when key turned means the linkage is still there - can you start the car ? put the key in ignition turn to position 2 and leave for 2/3 mins then press fob but make sure the battery is fully charged - also lift the sill button on the passengers dooropen the door and see if central locking will work with door open and /or closed - its poss the locks have burned out due to faulty RF receiver
Have a go and report back

Whoo hoo, all sorted. Couldnt sleep last night for thinking about this, anyway this morning got up connected up using jump leads key in turned to position 2 and left it. wound drivers window down and gave lock mechanism housing a tap or two and hey presto open pops the door key syncs and engine starts. just need to strip lock down and hopefully jobs a good un. Still going for new batteries just to be safe.
Thank you to all that have taken the time to help, it is appreciated.
Cheers Dino.

Well ive never heard of that way to do it before, ill try that one when im next outside and have time as mine has the same problem other than the door lockout.

To be able to open/unlock a superlocked door by hitting it as the key's in position 2 can cause the lock to ... unlock.

So you tapet the door latch through the small gap in the window and trim with a long screwdriver and it unlocked its self then you started the engine directly after taping the door latch? give me a step by step on what you did so i may try the same. :)

Hi Doug
Did exactly what i said on the post, the bit of lock i was aiming for was the white plastic bit that is pushed down when you turn the key thinking that it wasnt moving down enough to operate it.
Hope that helps. Dino
