I think you're off a bit;
90 litres = 19.797 imp. gallon
90 litres = 23.7755 US gallon
1 US gallon = 0.833 imp. gallon
Found that on Convertking.net. I have used this site many times and it looks very precise to me.

Yeah have had a look for converter i used can't find the bloody thing now. So don't know how i got 19.82 which is 90.104 litres. It should of course be 19.797. gallons as you say. But 19.82 gallons imp is indeed 23.8028 US gallons. The .87 was as i said a guess. But was not relivent anyway. Can't see that .104 of a litre would have made a lot of difference anyway to the mileage calculations. 450 miles on 19.82 gals is 22.70 mpg. 450 miles on 19.797 gals is 22.73 mpg.

Now did you know that temperature of the fuel will effect how many gallons you can put in the same tank?

True John, but not a lot of people know that. A 90 litre tank will hold more than 90 litres of cold fuel. But less than 90 litres of warm fuel. The capacity of the tank does not change, but the volume of the fuel does. 90 litres is actually 19.79723234691 imperial gallons if he wants to be totally pedantic. But that is of course the volume of the tank, what you can actually get in it varies with temperature.

Here's cracker for those still believing their trip computer..... reset mine before setting out round m25 today (2.5DT), checked range and mpg after 15 miles, result... range 386 miles (with only about 1/4 tank left), and mpg 51.4!! Dream On!

Yep, right, but what about the temperature of the tank too? Only a valid argument when adding fuel to a tank of a different temp, or then again not, because the linear coefficient of expansion for abs (tank) is 78x (10-6 m/m K) and diesel is approx 600x (10-6 m/m F). (apologies for mixed units).
So obviously best value for money is to put cold fuel into a warm tank, but for the pedants out there, just how much better....?

Reset the trip when you fill the tank and you will find it takes some 20 miles before it settles to an accurate computation. If you re-set with a quarter tank, it doesn't have much chance and certainly not after only 15 miles and even more so if you have a power box fitted

I can't be bothered with maths....but it's not good.

I make that a little under 17mpg, which I guess is about right for around town driving?

Old thread but here's my 2P........
So i've been using the P38 as my trusty workhorse for the last 4 months doing mostly motorway miles with a few A/B road trips in between and a little bit round town (not too much TBH)
For the first 4500 miles I left it to the trip computer which gave an average of 32.4 MPG........so I have then since done the calcs by hand. Each tank I fill with 80 litres, reset the trip and off I go, have been doing this for the last 3000+ miles and have calculated the real MPG to be 31.7 which really, really surprised me!
I get between 520-560 miles per tank (80 litres) and was nicely surprised with the figures (80 litres = 17 UK gallons/540 miles)
What really got me was the trip computer wasn't far out
Note: Motorway = 65-70, A road 50-55 and only going over 75 when overtaking on motorway so nice and steady all the way. 2.5 DSE with power box fitted

Im getting about the same, Fill it up, do around 470/ 530 miles then fill it back up.
But anyway if fuels an issue... Buy a Honda..

Just my two penneth but I've had the same tank of gas and petrol in mine since the first week of December. Does it not count if its been off the road for repairs though

I was 420 my last tank. Manily a roads here lot of down to 40 back to 60 pasing thru villages 30 then to 60. Fair few hills. Psi box thingy fitted. Drive in steel toe caps. Heavyish foot. Dse auto. On springs off road height. 255/60r18s insted of 255/55r18s

Dont fill with just 80 litres as inbetween you could be dipping into the remaining 10litres or so giving false readings....
Best to brim the tank to the first click of the pump....do a bunch of miles as normal and when it is time to fill again, brim the tank to the first click....this is a sure fire way of knowing the tank is filled to almost the same point eachtime.....take a note of the total trip mileage and do the maths...
Would be intrigued to see if the numbers are similar......
