p38 dse plug & play block

High folks, probably one for wammers. As you all know my block is cracked and am just wondering will another engine just plug in and work or do i need to reset things. If its a load of faffin its up for grabs soon.

Simple answer is no but I think the block is the same is the same. Main issue will be the security bit and the FIP. Cannot remember your year.

Thanks pal. Thought there would be some problems. If i get a bare block with head and fit all my bits what can cause a problem

. So basically it should fire up and all will be ok, for about an hour or two, till the gear box falls off at least

It'll go twice as fast with half as much smoke for twice as long. And then the gearbox will drop off.

Im just a bit concerned that the electricory wont play but as long as i use all my old bits and dont touch the fuel pump and upset sumat it should be ok

Should be fine but be careful of injector #4.

Its running at the moment as ive stuffed it with halfrauds weld all stuff. Just fill with water every morning. Was going to fix block with JB WELD but theres a lot of pressure stored in the expansion tank every morning when cold so im thinking the head has gone as well so not worth the bother. Was going to stick weld it but as above, head gone i think

Ah #4, hoping all that stuff is ok. Theres the option of selling it on for peanuts or scrap it on the drive but that would be a shame after all the other work i have done

As was all good £1700- 2200
Now £500 if lucky
Replace engine @£3-500 worth as was.
Scrap an fleebay bits £7-1200 eventually

have a look on ebay for M51 BMW engine there are a few at reasonable price and you can change the sump over and the FIP and it should be all good

Did mine a couple of months ago with engine front a omega. Took me about 2 days in all fired you after two or three turns of the key. Didn't have to resend ecu to becm or anything. Just make sure you disconnect the battery correctly and you should be good to go. The fip pump if still on the replacement engine needs to end in 994 otherwise you will have to change yours over. Gearbox a bit of a pig to line up putting it back toget her but apart from that quite easy. Did mine on the back street on cobbles. Hth

Second hand lump for £500. One will come up. After that sell or keep comes in. Looks like stemac isn't so far away if you need support or get stuck. Never had the engine out but I've had the gearbox out a few times and it is tricky lining it up.

The messing with ecu becm is only if it goes out of sync. If you have to change the fip the that's only about an hour if that with engine out. I put off changing my engine for about two years after all the horror stories I'd heard about but eventually took the plunge and it was a doddle. Like I said the biggest problem was lining gearbox back up but eventually got it.
