My mate,now deceased,, used to overhaul the Km gearboxes at Vauxhall Ellesmere Port. Luton used to send them up on the night trunk for him to do.
 
I thing it was a Turner or Eaton box on the KM? 381 or 466 engine, 16 tonner.

Nicer version of the TK and popular for tipper work as much more rugged than the smaller TK.

Me and my mate did the head on his dad's tk when we were younger without taking the cab off, christ that was heavy!

What was the tractor unit designation letters,not a very successful unit. Even Vauxhall leased Volvo 's in the end. The night trunk from E/port used to change over at Rugby then head back up the A41 and have a kip in a layby on a board across the engine cowling. The first night they used the Volvo with a sleeper cab the driver was woken by the police about 10 in the morning because Vauxhall had reported him missing as he should have been back at 0600. The bed was so comfortable he slept though :D
 
TM was the 1970's tractor, 500 series or the Detroit Diesel V6 and V8 engines.

Never worked on them, but got woken up most mornings by them when we lived close to the big Vauxhall trailer park at the Luton factory.

Compared with the Swedish trucks, body panel preparation and protection was pretty poor in the UK. Scania would ship their chassis-cabs with a base paint coat that was good enough to run with, although most operators would paint in their colours.

Pro-Motor had a guy in to hand-paint their cabs, remember him doing a few at Surrey Docks when I was based there. They ran down to the Middle East with their LBT11034 sleeper cabs.
