Hi guys,

As anyone of you with a pre 2000 RR knows the cupholder is utter crap on the rangie:mad:

Seeing as the 2000 on lids that come up on ebay go for funny money I did a fair bit of research into various cup holders and discovered that the VW cup holder from 05 Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra fitted perfectly behind the little walnut piece in the dash between the steering wheel and the door.

Did a bit of bodging and heres the end result.

Even though I could have got the closed alignment better if I hadn't rushed it at the end I'm well pleased with it.

:D:D Nope you'll just have to get a LHD one:D:D

My second option was the rear cup holder from a mk 4 golf/bora. Its a shallow twin holder that should fit (with a bit of bodging) in place of the lower lip of the cubby hole thereby keeping the utility of having the hole which is the only advantage it has over the handy slot in one you can get from British Atlantic.

I didn't go too far on the Bora one once I found the other one fitted as it meant taking the dash centre console out to check for room behind it. I only put it back together in January so I was in no mood to take it apart again but from what I remember there was the depth of a standard DIN slot above the radio which should mean its doable.

If you get caught for HEVAC bulbs or orings check it out at that time.

The only other place you could fit the one I did is through the long walnut trim on the passenger side but that defeats the purpose and getting a tidy finish on that would be extremely difficult.

Helpful to know how much space is behind cubby hole, as I was hoping to stick my CB in that slot. I would have found out for myself before long I suppose as I've got the dreaded o-ring problem to sort:mad: and the clock bulb to change. CB isn't that big, so maybe I can get cupholder in there too while I'm cutting that panel up.

Kernow,

Here is another option I looked at, cup holder out of 04 Passat I think, might fit in nicely below a CB for a lefty like you!

Or even better, find out if they made a one that came out the other way for LHD, although looking at it I'd say they just didn't alter the LHD one for the righties.

Hi All,

I've had the same problem recently with my P38; my uncle has a RR TD6 and there is more cup holders than ashtrays in his, but the P38 seems to be the other way around, so been searching the net and found these:

Black Plastic Folding Car Truck Drink Cup Can Bottle Holder Stand: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Bought 4, one for each door in beige, took about 7 days to arrive and fitted them today with the 4x 12mm self tampers that come with each holder - all for around £15 inc delivery. Hope this helps anyone else, included a few pics of the ones I fitted, seem to be quite tuff and a simple design - only time will tell how long they last, but for £15 took the chance!:)

Quick addition to my last on the 19th June:

Do Not fit the NSF Cup Holder if your front passenger requires to access the glove box whilst on the move as you will need to open the door as it is not flush enough to let the glove box cover to open. Doesn't bother me or the wife, but thought I should mention before someone buys them and starts screwing it on the door!

The holders will also hold your usual cardboard takeaway coffee cups with ease.
