Hi.. A great site with a wealth of info..
but can anyone help with this ?

1995 P38 4.6 HSE

I have the dreaded SRS light flashing on dash and the Airbag Fault display :(

The battery went flat and cooked when I charged it up.. (guess it was faulty as only 3 months old) so new battery fitted.. the batteries I used over the years are the larger ones for diesel's not the ones prescribed for 4.6.. the old gal just eats them..

now have the fault code for drivers airbag fault.. this cam on when battery was flat and I charged it up prior to new one being fitted.
I have replaced the srs steering coil , srs ecu and still have the fault, ,RR test book will clear it but it come right back after a quick check, all connections seem good the car only does 2k a year and was stood up for past 8 months with battery on trickle charge.

totally at a loss any info would be greatly appreciated.

What fault did T4 record? Low battery is a common cause of an SRS fault but should clear with diagnostics. Sounds like a bad connection or a duff ECU. Need to know what the fault was that they reset.
 
HI,, the fault read as open circuit on drivers airbag.

is there a way to frig the connection to test the circuit up to the air bag ?

may invest in Lynx... would this be the better option on home diagnostics kit ?

By far and away the better diagnostic option is the BBS Nanocom...

And don't frig the Airbag system, very dangerous!

Most common is the Steering Wheel coupler!

change coupler and ecu checked sensors under bonnet.. the car was fine ,, parked it up on drive,,
battery went flat,,
plugged in battery in to charge it got some life in batter then fault appeared
left on charge and then battery cooked
new battery and over to RR on Test book to clear fault,, still there and will not clear down the fault, the RR garage say they have to tract all wiring to find fault,, but the car hasn't turned a wheel ....
Really annoying...

There is a connector for the rotary coupler that can give trouble.
Get a Nanocom, you will need it to clear the fault whatever happens.

the fault wasn't there when battery was charged up,, ran flat then faults appeared.. car hadn't moved..
I have replaced the rotary coupler and testes continuity from Air bat to the 2 pin coupler that connect to the harness. with and without the bond clip on the coupler..

where is the best place to but either lynx or Nano com please?

Nanocom is much superior to Lynx, buy from www.balckbox-solutions.com exchange rate is good at the moment.
If T4 cannot reset the fault, then the Nanocom will not either. However, it may be the reset on T4 was not done correctly. The Nanocom can be used for fault finding, it will tell you which circuit is at fault and if the fault is a short or open circuit. You can then follow the loom back looking for the problem.
 
Take a look behind the kick panel on the drivers side, behind the bonnet pull lever.
You have a couple of white connectors that can cause a headache if rot if festering in them.
Did you replace the steering coupler with new or used?

the steering coupler is fine , checked continuity etc,, all ok, , on both of them..
as I said the fault appeared after the battery went flat,,,,, how would RR clear a hard fault like this ? I don't want to go and spend lots of cash on home test book kit and it doesn't clear the fault down,, new SRS ecu and still the same.. battery leads dissed and left to clear any residual poers then coupled together to clear thje ecu's down of any issues..
still there.. SRS light is Flashing not a permanent light,, if this makes a difference?

The BECM listens for any the remote to signal the car ,, but these early ones will listen and wake up on virtually any remote. .even my garage door.. so every time the garage is opened or another nearby car is unlocked ,, it stays in awake mode for a while then sleeps... the wakes when a remote is pressed and so on,, so the car is left on a trickle charge,, its not use much over the year by a nice car to use when you need it..

Check bulbs, one could have blown - you may need stored low voltage fault cleared with diagnostic

a study I did:
When upper bulb is blown the light stays on
When lower bulb is blown in flashes on & off
When both bulbs works but there's a fault it pulses, newer goes out

Had the binnacle out and all bulbs checked ok :(

Hi..thanks for getting back to me . I am in Bexhill .. East Sussex area.. if anyone can help that's would be really great.. ill get an air bag sent in but there not much else I can do without diagnostic kit to clear the fault down..
