P38 4.0 Infamous 4HP22

I have dissasmbled the transmission, cleaned everything so it is good to go. These worn piece of pump is worn 2.5mm, I think it is no big deal. But question remains. Why do I have so big gap between flex plate and convertor?

There is normally a bit of float between the torque converter and the flex plate. When fitting the box onto the engine the torque converter is pushed back as far as it'll go into the g/box and then pulled forward to the flex plate slightly to be bolted together. The torque converter seal will allow for this. This tells you that the convertor is mounted correctly into the box. If the convertor comes up tight against the flex plate straight away and the bell housing still has a gap in it the convertor is out of its place and the g/box needs removing and the installation checking. If the box is pulled into place while the torque converter is touching the flex plate there is a risk damage will occur.

Not commented but watched.

Now I dont know too much about the auto box (too scared to dive in ;))
From what I am aware when locating the Toque convertor it locates in some lugs (2) when it is fully in there will be a gap to the flex plate, this is to allow it to pull away from said lugs (pump drive) to allow for the TC to expand a bit when in use.

Now you say you have disassembled the transmission, (translation maybe at fault here) what did you take apart and find?

As I said not knowing the ins and outs. plenty of advise already given. But looking at your pics you have broken the 2 lugs and now you don't have pump drive.

If it was all the same, Like for like, from taking apart to putting back together and everything else was right, than the only thing is you have done it wrong and the obvious thing is the TC and Pump drive:oops:

When I did mine, I used a strip of bent 3mm aluminium bolted to the bottom bell housing threads to hold the TC in place. Then after getting the bolts almost into the engine I could safely remove the 3mm strip. final gap between TC & Flex plate was about 3-4mm or thereabouts.

RAVE does say to "secure retaining strap using two bolts". There's probably an LR "retaining strap" but never even seen a picture !!
 
All done and working correctly now.
I made terrible mistake and assambled the flaxplate wrong. Not the flexplate itself but I have missplaced thick and thin washers on the flex plate. That coused the damage of the pump. Thank you all for help.
