Heyo, i have the infamous water dropping down into both my footwells, on the rubber mats. Theese are the pollen gaskets which have gone bad? am i right or wrong?

I bought some silicone, and i took of one of the housings, see the gasket all dried up and basically disentegrating?

and the filter were all bluggered up with dust and stuff. Gotta buy new ones i think, if not just blast out the dust...

Should i remove the old gasket on the housing? its just a normal black rubber gasket, but its chewed/dried up and aint looking leak proof.

If i am wrong, were else could the water come from?
Cheers!

The pollen filter housing cover is the most likely cause. I find a bead of silicone along the top edge is the best way of stopping the ingress of water.
There are 2 screws on the scuttle that also let on water, one either side that also benefit from the silicone treatment.
If the foam on the plenum intake has disintegrated, then the plenum drains may also be blocked, unlikely if the foam is intact.

The issue with the covers even with new gaskets is they warp in the middle, which exacerbates the issue.

Draft excluder or silicone.

A dab of silicone on the scuttle screw heads too .

ok, will get 2 filters and the foam for the thingy, the whole foam has disintegrated, yes.
I replaced the foam with perforated metal which will last for ever. The bloody foam would start to disintegrate after a couple of years in the sun here in France. I can send you photo's and details if you wish.

No worries, i've already bought the foam.
But i'd definetly go for the metal mesh next time :p

Before you fit the foam, get some fibreglass fly screen and wrap the foam in it and fit it like that. It protects the foam from damage in service. Works quite well. I can post a pic if you want to see how it looks.

Okay, got a pic?
And where could i buy this screen?

I’ll take one in the morning for you. As for the screen, in our part of the world you buy it by the metre from any hardware store, but then we may have more flies here than you do!

wow, well this was surprising. I ordered the pollen filters and foam and some minor other details and wow, island 4x4 got it to me now today. (Monday- Friday, England to Norway. Impressive.

I hope my other order with my water pump pulley holder thingy will arrive just as quick :D

Island are quick despatching I've found. Paddocks are getting terrible but some of paddocks stuff is quite a bit cheaper for the same thing so I suffer the delay to save a few quid:rolleyes::)

Welp, got the foam and filters changed. Filters were all black and dusty with leaves etc. was hard to remove the wiper arms... had to get a crowbar hehe. i used penetrating fluid in advance.

I used silicone around the top of the pollen filter housing, so ill see if its stopped leaking now... Anyhow, its atleast a new smell inside the car!! ( a better one obviously)

Sealing the filter housing covers did naff all to fix my internal waterfall, as others have said, Overseal the scuttle panel screw head just above the filter cover, otherwise water just bypasses the filter and drops straight into the air duct.

What screws? The 2 right above the filter cap? Both sides?

How would i best seal them, by just making a silicone putty all around them?

pictures would be helpful if you have
I wonder if its water in my well tomorrow.. Its quite stormy outside!
