The company i'm going to Morocco with send out the following suggestions of spares -
o Tyres: No special tyres are required; a good set of All Terrain's are most suitable (aggressive tyres dig themselves down into the sand) and we strongly recommend carrying 2 spare wheels (borrow one if necessary) and an inner-tube
o Fuel: the basic requirement is for a total range of at least 300 miles. We recommend you carry at least one Jerry can of spare fuel
o Oils: engine/gear/diff oils, hydraulic fluid plus any fluids peculiar to your vehicle.
o Recovery gear: no special recovery equipment is needed, but if you have it, all the better. However, bring a good long towrope and shackles just in case. Always carry a shovel
o Battery- A good battery is essential for reliable starting, early morning temperatures can be below freezing in the High Atlas
o Spares: There is no definitive list of spares, what you take will be governed by the confidence you have in your vehicle. We recommend taking a workshop manual, a set of filters, a full set of belts, radiator hoses, a viscous fan coupling, wheel bearings, prop-shaft UJ’s, spare fuses and possibly fuel and water pumps, a collection of oil seals, brake and clutch cylinder repair kits and for petrol engines electrical ignition componentsHead gasket,Expansion chamber,Ignition block,
o Tools: as well as the basics, we suggest a collection of nuts bolts, wire, tapes, clips, WD40, epoxy glue, silicone, radiator / fuel tank sealant. Add to this list and make up your own box.
o Spare Keys: because you are in new surroundings, you may absentmindedly lock the keys inside the vehicle. Hide a spare set in the vehicle, but to avoid a break-in wire/tape a door key (concealed) on the outside.
