Hi @Rubberknees

funny enough on some D3’s seen where side steps have caused the sills to rust due to the steps becoming a water trap

personally fitted some rock sliders that also have large rubber steps to aid getting in / out , plus won’t slip in wet weather , my mum finds them very good seeing she’s only 5’ 2” , was lucky as found some second hand so just spent time sanding them down then treated inside and out with 3-4 coats of dinitrol

another thing I liked was not having to cut the plastic sill covers, they came with sturdy brackets that simply bolted on , did get all new stainless steel nuts/ bolts , drilled some water drainage holes in the bottom

another great thing is if someone tries to open their door too wide all that happens is they kit the rock sliders , DING , lol

hope that also helps

many thanks. Only seen new rock sliders for sale, people seem to treasure them so none on second hand market

Well update me and my neighbour just had a quick look at whats needed to remove the brackets if I go ahead to fit new steps. 3 brackets all in place and look straight forward. The one where the step broke away is twisted and bent, could be a bit of a fubar. Looks like using access height is going to be way forward for the time being.
Anyone know if the bolts are AF or metric sizes? please:)

On a p38 they are m8 bolts 13mm spanner

We got a set of these for Otto, they work fine and make it a lot easier getting in and out for my wife (2 replacement hips, 5 blown lumbar discs).
They were a bit of a pig to fit, prop one end, loose bolt the other, then do the first with bolts, then tighten the second end fully. Powder coat could be thicker but they are OK and solidly built / heavy.

Do they use the existing brackets or are they different?

Brackets are welded to the step, holes in the bracket line up with the holes in the chassis brace plates. Don't affect the side moulding at all. Think it was a single 10mm bolt at the back and 2 8mm ones at the front. Ones that came with it looked a bit weedy so I fitted stainless ones with nylocs and then a second lock nut in case. No sign of loosening after several thousand miles. My mum (about 5' 4" and a bit arthritic) found it made him easy to get into.

Thanks for that. Don't have a photo by any chance, please

New side steps arrived, very quick delivery. Will pop into town tomorrow and pick up some stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers. Then arrange with my good neighbour for fitting. God I'd be lost without him, he's a star.:)
As I recall I propped the back roughly in position on an axle stand and got the front bolts in loosely to stop it twisting so easily when I did the back.

First time when I had it the wrong side of the chassis section I started with the back and the front kept dropping off the stand and twisting it over easier.

Hopefully he's free and you get some dry weather over the next couple of days so you can waft easily again soon.

Thought of using axle stands. Tomorrow's forcast looks good for now, so fingers crossed.. Very impressed with the quality of them and the fitting is far better than what were on IMO. Even the missis likes them :)

Well we tried to fit them and they would not match up. Much head scratching so phoned supplier , he is a fantastic guy. Turns out after looking at delivery box someone in his wharehouse has sent me a 110 side step instead of P38 so a 110 owner has got my P38 one I assume. Took him 10 mins to sort out, shipping me my new one immediately and arranging for return of wrong one. I can not fault him at all and we had a right old giggle about it. Well come on guys you that know me know I have more important things to worry about than a wrong side step delivery which is being sorted PDQ. Its the guy in the whare house who needs to fret as he is heading for a reight b*ll*cking :rocket: :)

The sad thing is that the stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers are probably imported into Sheffield rather than made there. Hard to believe but I doubt there's anything left down Attercliffe or the Don Valley?
