funny enough on some D3’s seen where side steps have caused the sills to rust due to the steps becoming a water trap
personally fitted some rock sliders that also have large rubber steps to aid getting in / out , plus won’t slip in wet weather , my mum finds them very good seeing she’s only 5’ 2” , was lucky as found some second hand so just spent time sanding them down then treated inside and out with 3-4 coats of dinitrol
another thing I liked was not having to cut the plastic sill covers, they came with sturdy brackets that simply bolted on , did get all new stainless steel nuts/ bolts , drilled some water drainage holes in the bottom
another great thing is if someone tries to open their door too wide all that happens is they kit the rock sliders , DING , lol
