as per title:eek::eek::eek:

replaced the ujs on our discovery 300tdi front prop but when I took the splined end out to check for wear guess what dewdrop forgot to mark where the exact spot it came from. could anyone tell me how to rectify this as I have a slight vibration through the transmission so am assuming I got sommat a bit wrong. the prop is not a genuine landrover one so no arrows or markings on it to help me:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

did you pull the end off, so you haven't lined them up when putting it back on the splines, if not just unbolt one end and turn 180 degrees and refit, did you change both uj or one, were they moving nicely after fitting cups and circlips ?

many thanks for the quick reply.

replaced both ujs. pulled the splined end out to check for damage/ wear but forgot to mark where it came from. done them before but always marked em up. just forgot to do so this time.(must be an age thing:D)

180 won't help will it :D

it's about 30ish out of phase, you'll have to just keep farting about unless it has witness marks

It'll only go in one way won't it??

Can any one tell me why the ends don't line up? i was always taught that theres a certain way the U/J should line up and have always made sure they do but disco front U/J don't does any one know why??

iirc, in this case they are out of phase due to the front axle being slightly forward for stability. if the prop was left inphase then you'd get vibrations, so it's out by 30-45 degrees to cancel it out.

the rear is inphase

also, no they don't have kings/guide notches

it because diff flange and t/box flange arent parallel ie diff points upwards t/box straight forward , props are best and in phase when flanges are parallel but offset

Well we've just change all the U/J's on my sons 300 disco and the front prop will only go back together one way, it has a spline missing in the prop shaft?

maybe some are keyed then. it seems some also have arrows and others don't :shrug:
