Heh, when I had a flat many years ago, up a couple of flights of stairs, I had a racing Katana GSX 1000 engine in the bathroom .. that leaked!
Wouldn't have been so bad but it was underfloor heating, so I could just be getting the flat warm when the smoke alarms would go off ..
We've decided to definitely keep this Disco now and clean it up, nothing good enough for me or straight enough that's also cheap enough to do up as I'd like. Wrong time of year for a decent but cheap Landrover, or any 4x4, I guess ..
Stupid not to, it's as straight as a straight thing with minimal rust and I 'know' where the bad bit is ..
So we've spent about £400 on it so far for bits and bobs and stuff, including the 'garage', but reckon another £400 will see it looking like a right proper job ... and running better than ever .. so gonna end up, hopefully, with just about enough to afford an Ashcroft Limited Slip Diff. Won't afford a proper locking diff!
Trying to fettle things with cleaning and re-building rather than buying new. Most expenditure is on nuts and bolts and parts so far .. +5" rear shocks and mounts for them, Waterproof grease (loads) gaskets for gearboxes, timing kit, set of bushes and decent trailing arms (Adrenaline) and a number of electrical bits like a fusebox, loom wiper switches etc. Also getting things like a new lift pump, new hoses and pipes, most of which are cracked with age, so the insurance payout is allowing me to do decent maintenance before sh1 happens for a change ...
I've also found a place where I can buy Timken wheel bearings at £10 a pair, but have to buy a minimum quantity for that and postage, but still cheaper than buying odd ones at £9 each delivered ..
So it's looking very positive here right now, have set myself a realistic date of January 19th to get it running and properly back on the road. Hopefully it'll be before then, but I've still to even start stripping the internals, though the seats and carpets are gone!
