Go on yersel' mate... lookin' guid;):D

Cheers Bigman, you getting ahead with that tank?

Tonight, i replaced the wee bits i broke when removing the xfer box, namely the bolt which holds on the diff lock lever and a small horse shoe pin:

That little job out of the way i was able to put the gearbox tunnel back on ( driving around with it off is a noisy experience ). and the mats around it.

Whilst doing that i came up with a soundproofing solution to my noisy cab:

this is cheap carpet underlay, i found it on a job sometime ago, so i cut it up into some sort of relevant shapes and stuck it to the bodywork around the footwells and gearbox tunnel with spray adhesive. Works a fookin treat! I have to stick my head out the window to hear the engine now

Will post some pics of it stuck on if i remember next time i'm ferreting about in the cab...

the bottom of your outriggers been plated no ?

the end hasnt been welded/left a hole ? my drivers side looks like that - with the sill on you cant see it ... my passengers side is as it came out the factory and has no hole on the end

the carpet pad good idea. Only one question that stuff holds water really good could rust the floor faster than normal

Being foam, then yes it will hold moisture, but it's a simple job to remove it if necessary and replace. Doing that outweighs the nuisance of a noisy cab :D

Oh i see, nope both sides were open, it's standard fitting for a rock slider to slide into the outrigger at this point. Not seen any with the end capped off before tbh.

I think folks may be talking at cross-purposes?

And a non-butchered one (couldn't find the same view, sorry):

I see, yup both mine are open on the ends, BUT i'm getting an optical illusion on that 2nd picture, i can't work out which way around it's supposed to be

Patched should be fine Ian, i have a replacement axle bits for the front end plus new dampers to put in, so i reckon i'll get it all done in one go whilst i'm ferreting about.

As it's been a while, here's an updated list of the stuff needing to be done, and boy has it got to the point my poor baby is struggling to forgive me!

  • Pass beam not working
  • Horn not working
  • OS lights dim
  • Front diff replace
  • Front axle replace ( housing )
  • Front shocks & dampers replace
  • Rear shocks & dampers replace
  • Rear os wheel oil leak
  • Rear x member replace ( by october MOT )
  • Drivers seat belt replace
  • Diff lock lever not engaging low range ( my fault, need to invstigate )
  • Manifold tighten ( running a 19J so it doesn't fit perfectly, periodic tightening of the bolts )
  • Replace block asap, i get more smoke out of the breather pipe than the exhaust, constantly now, will check the gaps on the valves as well.

I think that's it off the top of my head, there will be more no doubt ;)
