well i now know where turbo exit downpipe is going..and where exhaust is going..took hours,but got it right first go!

and fett,you saw the state of car,everyone else would have scrapped,so atleast (if you approve or not,lol) its back alive!

all stainless steel..

Toying with fitting a Turbo to my brother's Series 2 petrol - this thread has given me the inspiration!
 
what an untidy engine bay!!!

wrap is from burton power.its not cheap,comes white have heat paint treated it..proberly glass based as it ripps your hands to bits..

got a turbo or two ..have a good one excellent infact to fit a 2l..
 
not with deeep fried mars bars they dont!!

had a nightmare with the steering uj's on the column.

had to cut them off with disc cutter..then new ones refused to go on..had to cut new ones offf as they jammed on..not impressed!:mad::mad::mad:

stripped out column as this was the offending item,cleaned up splines and belvelled edge..then the one remaning new uj went on..thank fyck!

repaired break pipe i must have squashed with new copper pipe..

played with rear bucket seats..





 
Something I remembered the other day: with the BMW seats what is the plan for armrests?

I can't see RRC arms fitting to the seats or maybe any arms due to the angle of the sides.

The standard RRC cubby is too low and narrow to work as a rest so a larger box would be needed?

If you can't do that regal RRC lean to the centre while driving it could be a disaster.
 
well the idea of no arm rests is sporty driving i guess??

have other things to worry about before thaem..lol

things are at fiddly stage now,everything seems to take forever,and yet nothing seems to be happening,(yet it is)

so this eve 4 hrs got oil lines done except for turbo feed as got wrong adapter for turbo..bugger..got belts on,..discovered i forgot alternator number 2 was pushed in, (to release belt)..so when put in postion to tension belt hits turbo..feck!
not the end of world,will go buy shorter belt/and or add auxilary tensioner to take up slack..easy but apain i could do with out!..

I do have some reservations about the length of the turbo oil-feed line though.
I see a rather long hose that disappears along the side of the left bank.
In designing turbocharged engines, the oil feed to the turbo is made as short as practically possible, primarily because the turbo starts to spin almost immediately the pistons start to pump and needs to be lubricated. Unfortunately, most often than not, when the engine is first started from cold, it takes a couple of seconds for the oil pump to bring the oil in the galleries to full flow and pressure. Since a pre-lube pump is not possible in your application (almost all of the space under the hood is taken up), I would suggest installing a non-return ball valve at the point where that hose connects to the oil gallery, ensuring that there's always a charge of oil sitting within the hose. You could also consider one of those non-flowback oil filters that prevent the oil galleries from draining back into the sump whenever the engine is shut down.

re last post...actually ahead of you..already thought of very valid points you make,was under car this eve looking for oil take off points closer to turbo,found one just below turbo which i shall be using,its no problem getting oil feed pipe shortened..and yes bal valve was also considered..

changed turbo feed fittings too,didnt like all them fittings,so abit of brazing and new oil feed made.

much neater



fuel filters soursed and placement sorted...just now to work out lower rad feed (ok return) from rad to engine..and then..starting..(yes still have lots to before then,but its all well in hand..)
 
this afternoon..........

think i will let the pics talk..(and exhaust done..but where to put the twin outlets..i think each 12inches either side of center)



and thinking of using lourving on the bonnet,see pic,but will be using green bonnet with side lourving already in..
