Oil pressure too high

Hi I've just recently rebuilt my engine and now I have put a new oil pump on because the oil pressure was still too low when the engine was hot but I've just started it with a new pump with the engine obviously cold the pressure goes up to 70psi is this right or have I got a problem with my pressure release valve.
Any help would be appreciated
 
Well I would be happy enough with that.
I take it its an auto, just thinking as its in drive this will drop the rpms slightly which will cause the pressure to drop.
 
if you are going to change the oil post rebuild and are using 15w40 it may be worth trying 10W40 to see if that brings the cold pressure down?

If I put thinner oil in I will get less pressure at idle and it's only at 19psi at the mo that's why I think it's a problem with the prv but I don't no how the valve can stick shut. Be for I rebuilt the engine I checked the spring and it was in limits.
 
Its not the oil pressure, per se, it is what it imples....

Used to be common on fast road cars to fit a spacer behind pressure relief spring to up oil pressure to 70-100 PSI.
If you havent done that, it is symptom of possible blocked oil passage.

Did you replace any sleeve bearings, as if you get the oil holes misaligned, that can cause problems. Personally I wouldnt be over concerned.

With multigrade oils the 15w in 15w40 is the oil viscosity when cold the 40 bit is the viscosity when hot. If you change to 10W40 the oil is thinner when cold (when you have the high oil pressure issue) but will remain the same as 15w40 when hot so should remain at 19 psi
 
All the bearings were replace but the cam bearing were done by a specialist so don't no if there in right but it's too hard to check so they r staying like they r.
I like the Idea of changing the oil. I didn't know what the number meant for the oil type
I will still check the prv when I get a chance and if there is no luck there I will change the oil to 10w40
