I have had no end of trouble with my 2003 TD5 and have spent a fortune todate. The rear suspension had deflated today and the wife started the car to get the airbags lifted back up to take kids to school. This time it took a good 20 mins.

What she didn't know is the oil light was on and then suddenly the car just cut out. When I got back to her I tried to start the car and it ran then cut out. It will keep running if you keep accelerator on pedal.

Any ideas. Could it be the charge or is it more sinister like the oil pump ?? Any ideas what to do next?

That's what I thought, it just will not keeping idling switches off straight away. Is that the engine gone then?

I'm not really sure. My guess is it'll need a mechanic to look at it :( with a view to stripping it to see what damage there is.
If the engine still ran fine, then I would have been tempted to say the light was triggered by a faulty sender, but again, with no way of telling if there's enough oil, and oil pressure.... :(

Seemed ok I thought I could here more of a metal on metal sound but had to rev it to keep it running. Soon as let go of accelerator it cut out. It's nothing to do with battery and compressor running while idling on drive trying to inflate air suspension. Once it's started is that enough to keep it running?

It was deffo metal grinding noise. Do I take it that the engine is probably beyond repair? Anyone know what the cost maybe to rectify as I am weighing up options. I purchased the car for 3k and have spent 2k on it already. I think I have been ripped off well and truly with this purchase. I am not a person to sell it on to anyone else and that's why I have always done what it has needed. Shame the past owners didn't think like that.

Anyway I have just put 4 brand new tyres costing over £400 on 18" wheels, pas pipe, brake pipes, water pump, etc.

I will either have to stick with it or sell for scrap or split myself?

I don't know the wife was sat on the drive with engine running trying to get suspension to rise at the back. Bloody annoyed and didn't tell me that it was on until after I restarted it when got back but on turnover it was metal squeaking noise and then started and kept running whilst accelerator depressed soon as got back to idle it stalled.

I don't know, wife was with kids and trying to get suspension to lift as it had dropped so engine idling. When I came back I tried it and it started but soon as I stopped revving it cut out. Then the wife told me the oil light was on when it happened.

Really don't know what to do. Is the the complete engine gone?

My money is on a knackered engine, sorry.

Have you checked the dip stick to see what if any oil is in the engine . Cuz if there's no sign of oil on it put some in then check for oil pressure .if it comes up with lots of oil on it then start thinking about dropping the sump to see if the oil pump bolt is still in place and see what other metal bits are in it
