So, I was looking forward to tinkering and change the oil today. Bought all the parts through Paddock, got the oil, raised the car on blocks, got under, and...whoever changed the oil last tightened the nut so hard it was impossible to budge!!! Soooo annoyed as now I gotta pay someone to do it for me. Anyone in SW19 area or close by who could help? Got a big trip in August so wanna get it done shortly.

im assuming this is a TD5 engine?

huge problem have serviced several with this problem , moest recently doing the first service on mine during my ownership , the nut rounded , took welding another nut on top and a 6ft scaffold pole to undo it !

good luck

Yes, TD5 it is. I might have no choice but to take it to a garage in that case. Have no need or time to buy additional equipmenr

yeah that's a common problem with the td5 engine , not sure if I have just come across a lot of bad maintenance or if they somehow seize/self tighten

as said have seen it on a lot of these , my own was a little sod took over an hour !

I don't have that patience or the space under the car for that matter!!

I was lucky , full ramp and facilities ( done in my bosses HGV workshop)

was so tight that the welds were snapping that held the nut onto the original plug ! and I weld broken lorry chassis for a living !

Funny you should say that.did the engine oil today and near rounded off sump plug.i did it last time and i didnt do it that tight.used 2ft breaker bar and tapped on the socket.

I fit a new plug every time I change the oil and never had any problems

moest have been on customer vehicles and wont allow me to change it ( tight wallets ! )

on mine it was a few mins spare time so did not have a plug spare ( and did not think about it when ordering the parts previously )

you ask any of the girls i work.

Did you try undoing the plug with the engine warm or cold?
Also, If it's that tight, only use a 6 point socket on it too or you'll greatly increase the risk of rounding it off.

try with a strong mole grips

with the last 2 in particular(one being mine) they needed a nut welding on and a 6ft scaffold pole on a breaker bar , mole grips wouldent have don't those ones I don't think

by the way 6 point sockets are used , I only use them exept for fixings needing 12 point ( calliper bolts )

Chr1s where did you find pic of me.

Ah, erm... I haven't employed the services of the girls you work, if that's what you're asking... :bolt:

P.s. On a more sensible note. Would an impact gun shift the bugger? I have one, but you're probably too far away?
