Off roader and BeCM

After my first foray into proper off roading in my sacrificial P38, which proved it to be a very capable off roader, I am now looking to improve its ability. One of the first jobs is to move the BeCM and EAS unit, yes I am sticking to Air springs for now. So my question is this, how hackable is the Becm? Can i turn off most things such as immobiliser, alarm, window sensors, central locking? or if I am feeling a bit flush convert over to mega jolt/squirt to run the engine and bin the Becm? If i do bin it what problems will i possibly encounter.

I may even bobtail pick up it if it gets a favourable response.

A few items can be shutoff using the correct equipment such as nanocom,MSV,Autologic etc,but I dont think you can do what you are envisaging.Also the engine ecu runs the motor not the BECM.The BECM does however have a security handshake with the engine ecu to enable engine start.

At least one person has binned the BECM and replaced essential functions with relays.
On the diesel, the EDC can be set from new to not need the security handshake. Once set to secure however it cannot be changed to unsecure.

Thanks for the replies, maybe i will just rip out the annoying dash bleeper for a start. I have read somewhere that you can have the BeCM set to Australian mode which removes the immobiliser...


Anyone in Cornwall got a nanocom or similar?

the dash bleeper is plugged in behind the dash its on the back of the speedo

There are reports of people relocating the BeCM and other ECU's from under the seats and attaching them to the ceiling in neat little boxes just above and behind the Drivers seat (so they don't impact head room for either front or rear seat passangers...)
