OAT coolant in France. Quick reply needed please.

evening all,

I am having to change the coolant on my 2004 d2 td5 as there is a leak from the bleed screw in the top hose, which has now conveniently snapped off so I can't just change the bleed valve. New top hose it is. Having read the topics on putting the correct coolant in and not just any stuff I decided to go out today to get some.

As you will be able to see I live in France. I can find any old coolant but not oat.

My questions are can anybody who is in France or elsewhere in Europe other than the UK point me in the right direction of what and where I can buy some that meets the land rover specs in France?

I order all my ace/power steering/engine/etc oil from a company on fleabay.de and I have found the below link for coolant that they say is for land rovers.Could somebody with greater skill and knowledge than myself, not difficult I know, tell me if this would be ok?

I would really appreciate a quick answer, as I need to order it to be at mine by Saturday as I have use of a car lift for the day.

IMO it's not good as long as it's blue, i'm sure you can find pink/red OAT at any gas station in France or at least order one which is confirmed OAT on it, there are not different requirements for proper coolant mix in France than the rest of the world and for D2 the best is 50% OAT(organic acid technology)...here is from the workshop manual:
"Use Havoline Extended Life Coolant (XLC), or any
ethylene glycol based anti-freeze (containing no
methanol) with only Organic Acid Technology
corrosion inhibitors, to protect the cooling system"

Thanks for the reply. I have been around all over the place and the only coolant I can find is green or yellow. I have even been to the agricultural tractor suppliers and they don't sell red or pink.
would the coolant on the link be ok?

Fair play. RTFS is what I should do. I've read the manual and seen what it says.

Just one other question. If a coolant is good will it have oat, on the container, whatever the country?
 
Yes, as long as it's clearely stated OAT on it you can neglect it's colour, iirc i've seen green OAT once, or purple, but never blue, blue is usually IAT which is deffinitely not good for a D2... and if you find only concentrated OAT stuff make 50% mix with distilled water and it'll be ok

manufactures make it in several colors all the same stuff. Red,blue,green,and purple are what I have seen
 
that's why i said that the colour is not so important as long as it's deffinitely OAT, the lincences for O. A. Technology are very expensive cos there are strict requirements so even if it's red but it's not clearely stated OAT on it for me it's just a fake ''ordinary'' antifreeze agent which might misshehave at high temperatures (above 100*C)
 
I have been able to buy pink OAT in E'Leclerc supermarkets. It is marked as OAT suitable for VWs etc. Since Land Rovers are not "mainstream" in France they tend to not get a mention on the suitable for listings.
 
Thanks for all your replies. I will be off to Leclerc and Norauto tomorrow to see what I can find and letting me know it has OAT on the container even in France.

Revel is a bit of a trek for me Truffe as I'm over the other side of France by Sauveterre de bearn. I have a great local French mechanic who has a complete garage set up in his barn, me, a copy of rave and a nanocom.

sierrafery, I will remember to diliute it by 50% as well.

If this is the request for the ACE parts then that is what I would call PERFECTION! I have had my D2 re-chassied and parts of the ace system replaced plus many others all to keep it going and in its original state. It has now done 240,000 miles AND I am looking to have its engine reconditioned if/when the time comes!! The reason why it is still going is because my beloved husband goes nowhere near it, except as a passenger and then I tie his hands together behind his back and gag him!!!!! (Joking) Fortunately, he is not a driver.

Well I take my hat off to your dedication and by the sound of it a very well kept D2. It is the request for the ACE parts as if I can get them in stock I'll have them for when something goes wrong and I'll be off the road for the shortest amount of time possible. I am jealous of your new chassis. I asked father Christmas for a new galvanised one for this year but for some reason my misses put a stop to it. Then I found before "n" after, so the D2 is booked in on boxing day as the chassis is in good condition and it has been waxoiled before but a bit of surface rust is coming through and as I live down here hopefully that will be the chassis protected for a good few years more than the warranty states.
 
Just a quick tip. I had the plastic bleed screw break on mine leaving the threaded section in. I was advised to get a small screwdriver (Sharp ended or hot to burn slot in ) and unscrew it. Worked for me so would save you emptying the system fully.

I did consider trying that sort of thing but as I live where I do I need all the parts before messing about too much. Hence I bought the top hose complete and will get an aluminium one when back for Christmas.
Also I've had the car now nearly two and half years and I haven't changed the coolant. So, say the coolant was changed a year or 2 before I bought it, I think a full change would be about due.

An update for everyone else.
I have found ELF OAT green coloured coolant in an auto leclerc at @ €7 for 4 litres. It was the only one from about 25 different coolants that said OAT on the label. Others had organic in French but not acid anywhere on the label so I went safe.
