Hello,

Has anyone used a Vintage Black/Silver(white) old style number plate on their range rover? I know they are illegal but just wondering what your opinions were on them and if you have used them before.

Did you get stopped? If so what was the fine/points?

I was also looking at Swiss/German number plates because I like the white/black and prefer the font and think it will look really nice on a black RR p38 with tinted windows. Would these be legal? Doubt i'd get pulled over for having a German or Swiss plate as I could just be a tourist on holiday.

I've seen cars like BMWs, Audis, Mercs with german plates on before, especially around dover. Surely if they are legal in Germany then they should be legal over here.

e.g. if we drove to germany with our british legal plates, then we wouldnt get pulled over for having illegal plates.

My motorbike has an extremely illegal license plate and I havent been stopped in 2 years of having it. Its half the size (letterbox size), non-reflective, no LEDs above it and the font is thinner and smaller. Never been stopped and had policemen follow me and sat behind me at the lights.

Living in London and the congestion charge and all that, the camera will take a pic of your back plate, OK this is how bloody stupid the law is, if you dont have a back plate I think its a £60 fine each time your caught (and NO points) if you dont pay the congestion charge

If you haven't paid the Congestion Charge by midnight on the following charging day we may issue a PCN for £120 to the registered keeper of the vehicle.

So work that out!! the law is a ****ing joke sometimes, I have been called up to do jury service 3 times in my life and each time I told them I cant do it, yet they still leave me on there system,

I believe putting an any style of plate is illegal unless it falls into what was fitted at time of registration

Like the old black and white plates which are embossed if they are on a vehicle which was fitted as standard you can and will be stopped

I always look at it this way why stand out in the crowd for mr pc plod to pull you to then decide I'm goining to av a spot check on lights tyres tax insurance mot and then.your window tints ( I reckon your front tints are illegal) also have you told insurance about your no standard mods (tints alloys etc)

Most rangies round my way are illegal including mine

That is all!!!!!

Just to add I had an old xr2i in silver with and darken/honeycomb front and rear plate and I got stopped 7times in 2weeks from different coppers and everytime they done a spot check but all was well

I even had front tints to 85% darken I was told to remove but never did

I have a silver on black aluminium plate on the back and front (my Series II) but you can still get the plastic 3D lettering in the old font, and i must say (on an age related car) they do look good, on new cars.... well no they look ****e, and when you see one you just think what a ****er wannabe ( but then I do have a private number plate lol)

Technically it's not wannabe and I wouldnt look like a ****er if I had a swiss or German plate on my car, and surely I wouldnt get stopped because police would just assume I was a German on holiday. Don't see how it would be an issue if I had the normal plates in the boot or something and could put them back on there and there.

Having a tinted visor on a motorbike is illegal and you can get 2 points or a £20-40 fine. However, if you have the clear visor on you at the time and put it back on then they will just give you a caution.

My girlfriends Dad collects American Muscle cars and has American plates (which are hardly eligible) on all his cars. Never got stopped with having those on. I think a few of the cars dont even have plates on the front and he hasnt been stopped.

What a load of bollocks. You can't fit a German or Swiss style plate on your car if it's registered in Britain. As for your girlfriends dad he is illegal as well if he does not have the correct British plates on his cars. Front and back. Just be a good lad and fit the proper plates and stop being silly. You can't be a tourist with a British registration mark on a German number plate. Just a plonker.

Forgive me if I've made a mistake here. But the more you go on the Thicker you sound. It obviously hasn't occured to to you that

A RHD vehicle with foreign plates Might arouse suspicion in a city where the police are paranoid to hell about terrorism??

Your insurance will be null and void.

It's illegal and is likely to get your motor impounded if you get a tug of plod.

At worst you could arrested for perverting the course of Justice and fraud..

I have nothing more to add....

Except agreeing with this too.....

I'm gona stick a banana on the back of mine and tell the cops I'm a monkey and dont need them, and if they ask too many questions I will just scream like a baboon, show them my arse, and chatter like one so they dont think I'm human and only understand ape, then I'm gona calmly walk you Roehampton hospital for the criminally insane, and lock myself up in a padded cell
