Hi all,

Had my Disco for two months and in all that time I have got some judder through the steering when braking hard from above 50 mph. Just thought it was warped disks and made a mental note to replace them when I have the time.

Did some offroading today and on the way home braked hard and the ABS, Traction Control and Brake fluid/handbrake lights came on.

Turned ignition off and removed key, turned back on and only ABS light now on.

Drove about 100 yards and light went out, carried on for a couple of miles and braked hard again and all three lights back on.

Turned off and removed key again, switched back on and again ABS light stayed on for about 100 yards and then went out again.

Drove home without braking hard and lights all stayed out.

Also now realised the handbrake warning does not illuminate when it is on and probably hasn't since I have had the vehicle.

As always any assistance appreciated.

Cheers,

Y

The ABS system needs to see some wheel speed to reset itself after you've stopped and re-started. It goes off after 9.4 mph has been achieved I believe.

I'm wondering if the judder - as you say warped discs (I agree) - is bad enough to trigger an ABS sensor error to being on the 3 amigos. You may want to check the wheel bearings for play too ;) & bear in mind if you find any play/grumbling then it's new hub time as the bearings are a "sealed unit" as it were.

I've still had trouble with my handbrake/low brake fluid warning light even after cleaning the handbrake switch (it checks out with a multimeter) and the plug into the brake fluid reservoir. The light comes on/goes off when it wants! However, if it's on when the handbrake is on it will go off when commanded to do so... :scratchingchin:

Thanks for your reply.
Had the car 2 months and brake judder has been there since I bought it but never any problems with warning lights until Sunday.

Was MOT'd in October but I guess that's no guarantee that the wheel bearings are ok.

I did notice that the brake fluid was near to the MIN mark and have topped it up with no further lights so far:eek:

We shall see...

Cheers

Y
