Not starting

The point I was trying to make was. If an injector leaks off too much fuel the high pressure pump cannot produce enough pressure to start it. When you use easy start it spins the engine faster than cranking speed allowing it to produce more pressure overcoming the leak off problem and because idle speed is faster and than cranking also it will continue to run. That's why I asked if injector leak off had been tested. It's a more likely cause of your symptom than the electric lift pump as easy start is unlikely to have any effect on how that works. If it was high pressure pump you're likely to break down as they can't maintain pressure at higher rpm as they start failing and you get low fuel pressure dtcs. Hope that helps

Then to be talked over by someone is bloody annoying and it doesn't help the op as I'm likely to not bother coming back. The egos need slapping down. I like it here but there seems to be fewer normal people. The threads I've started are dead. Twelve months ago I'd struggle to keep up with the questions. It's not cos face books better. Far from it. Like you say it all dissapears so it gets asked over and over. And there are arses on there. But the shear big headed arrogance isn't there. I've had run ins with a few. Some are totally wrong but they keep on spouting and will not listen so people believe them especially when it's the big names with six million posts. It's crap!!!

Mmm, Diagnostics time, Why will it run but not start, when does an engine need more fuel, when it's cranking, and less when its running, agree injector leaking the fuel pressure but also worth a look at the fuel pressure control valve, I would first (easiest option) disconnect it and see if it starts before carrying out an injector leak off test first. While you are there do a similar test with the rail pressure sensor. Not sure if your garage has a diagnostic machine but most will be able to check fuel rail pressures at cranking. One other thing, I have seen faulty crankshaft sensors work fine running (high speed) and fail on low speeds when the engine is cranking, the list is endless of all the dodgy items and the faults they can cause over the years, it's just a matter of trying to put a finger on it sometimes and that's when Master technicians like myself come in handy, those who have the ability to deduct. One thing I have learnt over the years that in this game you will never know it all and It is always good to ask, even if it's someone who has never had a spanner in their hands but they might have had the same problem once before.

as a new member ive already had a ,loads stick from a certain 3 mafia members, your dealing with one , clearly regards the vcu they havent got a clue stating it will do no harm to run a freelander in perm 4 wheel drive , when you correct them you get called..ar...e of the week..twunt..get abused ive seem 4 new members get the hell out of here one lad ..first post asked about electrics and was told ..serves ya right for buying a fancy toy, there are big heads and the site is hated elsewhere, im on 2 others now but keep an eye on this just see the hatred and fallouts.
ive really never been on a forum with so many fall outs and reason they are like it is because there scared of any one who may know more, your a master tech, and yet your being talked down, ..i asked ...do you agree..after posting an answer and was accused being arrogant and atwunt ..as there was no need for the ..do you agree...what the hell.
its a good site for info already on here but ruined by ego tossers
4 new members packed it in within a few days with one of the mafia bragging..6 posts and hes gone..weve set a new record...sums them up eh..tossers

Maybe you need to look at your own attitude? Most don't get stick, unless they ask for it! ;)
There may be the odd spat and heated discussion on the forum, but also many people are helped with landrover issues, happens every day, if you read the threads you will see! :)
Many of us are also good friends, often in real life as well. :) And most of the seniors have been running landrovers and similar since long before "master tech" was ever thought of! :D
Who cares what they bleat on about on other forums, chances are they will end up having to come here if they want to know! :cool:
And, by the way, we are a clique, not a mafia! :rolleyes: :D

im in 7 forums, fishing, caravaning 4x4s ..never had a prob or have i seen the scale of problems as on this one,
prob is the attitude of ,,ive got a defender, or a disco im a country person and better than any one else, we have a few of you lot down local proper snobs, god knows why i know 2 of them all show, aint got 2 pennies to rub together..i sacked the one 3y ago ,,bone idle ..but they stand at the bar in there tweeds and flat caps lording it,
question you need to ask is this...4 newbies jacked in a week, 7 members stating they dont come on here often because of the attitude ..see your quote..most of the seniors have been running landrovers and similar since long before "master tech" was ever thought of! :D....pure bad attitude, our seniors...seniors of what....master tech as served an apprentiship, been accredited by mercedes, knows more than prob ya seniors put together...yet he gets talked down on how a pressure rail works...what....by the way one of your...seniors stated ..i really should fix that slow puncture soon, now thats an idiot driving a 4x4 on low pressure tyre that could blow or derim..yep you got some clever ones here, another stated..running in perm 4 wheel on a siezed vcu wont harm the drive train..yep sniors gem that.
i have no doubt theirs lot advice and help given ..seen load crap to, like the pics of the egr solenoid valve that was the egr... dont know diif then..

all the complaints, people leaving, arguments,....are we all wrong ..to finish with the 4 so called snobs had a shock last month when some one in pub grassed them up for running red diesel from the local farmer...see..thieving gits too....thats 3 less defender morons off the road.
and yesthere are a lot good guys on here and i thank them for there comments and help given..ive had 11 messages saying that there are are a load knobs ruining this site and supporting my view

It is good that your friend is a master tech, and I hope he makes a good living doing it, but landrovers are a big subject.
Old ones, new ones, working or leisure, hobby or daily drive, towing livestock, towing caravans, modification, competitions, rights of way,expeditions. And on lz you will be informed about any or all of these, due to the diverse knowledge mix of lz seniors! :cool:
I don't think anyone said they knew it all, in fact we often work together to answer questions, everyone with experience will have their own take on issues. As far as I know, lz is the only place you can go to get a suggestion about a landrover problem immediately. And usually it will be helpful.
I don't really understand your comment about snobs, there are all sorts on the forum, of every attitude and social status. I cannot recall that any that have met me in real life thought I was a snob. More think I am rough as rats, far as I know!
And people who run red diesel illegally are defrauding the taxpayer, and deserve to get nicked really. It is quite a common practice, though, as is running kerosene. Doubt if all those who do it are snobs, or drive Defenders, from the evidence I have seen, or smelled!

Some come, some leave, but the forum is very popular, huge number of members and posts, so I would guess most do not share your views.

Do you think you might be taking it a bit too seriously, it is only an internet forum.
 
All this bleating, whinging, chest beating and claims of who is most qualified to have an opinion does absolutely nothing to help the OP.

If anyone has problems with how things are here put a thread in website feedback.

If you want to make a claim to having the biggest swinging dick and arrogantly call everyone else arrogant put it in AG
 
Look at the ECU temperature sensor. Easy start should not be sprayed directly into the intake but across it whilst cranking. This allows the engine to suck it in rather than flooding it in. Excessive use can bend conrods.

not on tech threads you havent ,you will do if you carry on this way like a prima donna ,and the fact your a master tech at mercedes doesnt make you any more immune from questions as any other more or less qualified poster
 
Admittedly it is a little er, different here, but no different from a trip to the local. Men will be men, i thought it was the women that moaned? Maybe thats just an Essex thing......
 
Hate to break in on this love story, but to get back to the original question of why it will run but not start, may i suggest,having had this twice on different diesels,both times it was the valve clearances were to tight to allow the starter to fire it up, it would bump with a tow start, or as said fire on with help from easy start or wd 40,and run fine, only a suggestion, but it is so easily overloooked nowadays ,
