Ok the group going north on a19!:fencing:

Using the word group assumes that everyone is doing the same trip.

What we actually have is two completely different trips that happen to be on the same day.

My superior trip which is large enough (at the moment :D) to require two groups and the other trip . We try not to talk about that lot  but it seems you are joining them.

Good luck with that :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Got my Disco back from the garage today. Fresh oil in axles, gearbox and transfer box. New brass filler plugs fitted to axles and bump stop for rear axle fitted.

Now for the list of issues the inspection revealed:

Slight engine oil leak (will find out where exactly tomorrow)
they all do. as long as it aint ****ing liquid onto the floor, and your keeping an eye on the dipstick level.

One broken exhaust manifold bolt.
no major issue, weak point for gasket failure but not the end of the world.

Chassis corroded at rear/ hole at nearside rear.
a td5 thing. depends how severe. don't use the towball in anger.

Front brake pads low 3mm (can do them myself I reckon just a 12 point socket needed).
needs doing really. depends how much you use the brakes, but you could cause yourself an issue if it spits a pad out.

Roughness in O/S rear wheel bearing.
I have no idea of someones interpretation of roughness. budget on changing it.

Slight play in N/S front wheel bearing and noisy.
new assembly required or re bearing it. not cheap!
depends how slight "slight" is. probably noisy cos of the play.

Ferrules corroded on rear flexible brake hoses.
probably not an imminent issue, but budget on replacement. again, depends on interpretation of corroded.

Gaiter split N/S front anti roll bar link.
don't worry, but it'll fail an mot. replace at test time.

Lift in both O/S top & bottom ball joints.
how much? pain in the arse to replace. will cause vague steering.

Slight lift in both N/S ball joints.
as above but not as bad.

Should I still come along?
up to you.
did the garage that inspected it say in their opinion it was unsafe to drive?

Thanks nrgserv

No they didn't say it was unsafe to drive.

This is why I wanted to get an idea of what to budget for in the near future on keeping the Disco running. The steering isn't vague, but then again I've been driving it since June.

Will get brake pads soonest. 3mm should last the weekend I think. I'm not planning on taking it round Oulton Park :) I use a fair bit of engine braking in all the manual cars I've driven.

I can see myself making several visits to the local garage after buying the bits. As for the anti roll bar link. I need to get a pair of non ACE bars anyway. so all the links would get renewed.

See everyone on Saturday!

where did it say anti roll bar link?

Fair point. It just said split gaiter :) However. I thought the non ACE links are different so assuming I get some non ACE bars before next June I would have to change the links anyway.

There

Gaiter split N/S front anti roll bar link.
don't worry, but it'll fail an mot. replace at test time.

ok, got confused.
thought you were on about the steering upper/lower ball joint play, then doubted meself cos i'd forgotten bout the split gaiter bit.

I guess I will know when there's too much play in a wheel bearing when it trips the ABS light due to the sensor not reading properly....

or a wheel drops off... :D

EDIT: good luck Sue!

Thank you :D

Just worried it might fail due to the "one life live it" sticker

It might have to go :(:(:(

Ya mean the trip theres only one north yorkshire laners

I don't think fairy dust is an accepted Ministry of Transport substance, so that sticker may have to go. OLLI should be ok for non-Freelander LRs.

Tis too :p Its well known to increase speed, what do you think those buttons are on the cars in "Fast & Furious" movies. Fairy dust dispensers :cool::cool:
