Help please, My 04 Discovery has developed a starting problem. It doesn't want to start first thing in the morning. You can try up to six times before she fires up. It then runs fine for the whole of the trip. This started happening back in May. Originally it was thought to be air leaking in around the injectors but this has been more or less ruled out. I've recently had a non return value fitted that was stuck open but if anything this has made the problem worse. No faults are showing up on the computer diagnostics. Its now started being awkward about starting after being left for a relatively short time!

"Originally it was thought to be air leaking in around the injectors but this has been more or less ruled out."
Do you mean you've ruled out the injector o rings and copper seals?
I'm just wondering if you're loosing fuel pressure when the engine is off.
I'm sure the more knowledgeable will be along soon.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The thinking was it wasn't the injector seals as it's not following the pattern for them going wrong. It is running fine and the mechanic thought it should by now be struggling. I've purged the system of air but it doesn't make any difference. Mags

Hi - thanks for your reply. Its a diesel engine. It actually went through a stage of starting better when the weather was cooler. Could this be the glow plugs?

I've recently had a non return value fitted that was stuck open but if anything this has made the problem worse.

you should replace the air bleed valve(WJN500110) in the rear outer connection of the filter head cos that one can give hard starting and make the purging unefficient(purge the system after you replaced it)

also did you check the ECU red plug for oil?

As said above check ecu red plug for oil . Also is your battery cranking over at a good speed for a morning start up . And you could try next time if it don't start up 1st time then doing a purge on the fuel lines . To see if any airs in the lines . The purge start up is in the hand book
