This is what I thought. It’s obviously pumping in some way. There was no air coming from each injector either. Well I cranked it with a little brake cleaner and it didn’t each cough. So I’ll need to check the engine timing but it’s definitely got decent compression, when I turned it over by hand I had to give it some welly with the ratchet.

And I wondered about the chunk out of the pump pulley. Are the injectors known to fail at all?

What concerns me most is the glow plug light not coming on on the dash. I’ll get my power probe and see if I’m getting any feed at the glow plugs themselves when I switch the ignition on. Would the light not come on if the glow relay was faulty?

Not sure re relay, are they protected by a fuse ?
Still think you should change belt and check timing first. What if it fired up, snapped the belt ? Bye bye landy !
The knowledgeable one's will know but I don't think you need plugs above a certain temp ? It would at least cough especially with a squirt.

Oh man I think I’ve bought a lemon!

I suspect the timing is out. The pump pulley has been damaged at some point, so I can't imagine the timing is spot on. It must be spot on too, or it won't run.
If there's fuel at the injectors, then the EDC is working. ;)

The fuel that was coming out of the loosened injector pipes, it wasn't just under low pressure from pumping the bulb?

Presumably the return flow to the tank would need a reasonable amount of pressure to "escape back".

When I cracked off the bleed nipple on the pump intake pipe that was under the pressure from pumping the bulb. But the fuel from
The injector pipes aren’t under cranking pump pressure.
I’ve been working on the neighbours car and now my mums car so I’ve not had a chance to look at the freelander yet!

I’ll see if I can’t get away with checking the timing this weekend.

I appreciate all the help guys! Hopefully we can get it up and running soon!

If what the seller said is true and it suddenly died then something failed suddenly.
Hopefully this should make it easier to find. ;)

Keep expecting your posts to say It's alive !
As said personally I'd buy a new belt, start from scratch, check timing, least you know that's definitely not the issue.
Is there not little belts that drive the pump ?
Timing could have slipped and snapped that one. Don't know enough to be of more help sorry. Looks like the barmy weather your getting is a good opportunity to try and fire her up as won't heavily rely on glow plugs.
Good luck and keep us all up to date.

Sorry it’s been a while on those update. My wife and I have been deep into restoring our house having it fully retired new plumbing and gas etc, so I’ve not really had the time to spend on the old freelander.

I’m considering letting her go or possibly breaking. What do you guys think? I’ve got an extension to start planning too so cars that don’t run aren’t really something I’ve got time for right now and it’s just taking up space on the drive so could really do without it in my way!
