I have no idea guys, really !

Land Rovers arent my area of expertise...

But when I went to this importer who offered me a brand new pump for a good price, he had 2 kinds there. One was the electronic and the other one the mechanical.
I saw both of them and we both agreed that mine is the electronic...

I dont recall any wires going to the injectors, but regarding the throttle cables, doent that just have to do with the throttle alone ?

Anyway, it wont be long now. In about 10 days he will be coming over to my house with his diagnostics computer and the injector pump.

If its nothing he can sort out electronically, then he will just leave me the pump and leave.
On that day, I will know beyond any doubt if this is considered to be an electronic pump or mechanical.

My only concern is that the engine works properly after/if it fires up ....

That been said, I have also ordered a front wing which will come sometime next week and a spare wheel with tyre to add on the rear door.

By the way.... where on earth are the tyre changing tools in these cars ???

hydraulic bottle jack and wheel chock should be under bonnet behind one of the headlights... battery is behind tother one. wheelbrace and jack handle live under the passenger seats, allong with 3 roof bars if youve got roof rails.. my roof bars will slide out from under the rear seat base through the rear side doors without folding the seats , but have to tip the seat base up to find the jack handle and wheelbrace.

Assuming your Discovery TDi 300 auto is std, it WILL have an electronically controlled injection pump - no question!

To verify this, check to see if there is a Mass Airflow meter in the piping between the airfilter box and the turbo. If you have a MAF it's an EDC car so an electronically controlled pump. End of !

Right, where to begin....

Firstly, the injection pump IS the electronic one. Its a BOSCH.

Right. Got a mate with his Land Rover Diagnostics computer to have a final check before I bought the new pump.
His computer would not connect to the ECU.
Then I found that there were some blown fuses in the engine bay and some were missing.
Replaced the fuses and the diagnostics tool was connected and I had diesel finally pumping on top of the injectors.

Car still wouldnt start, so we thought that I should also change the glow plugs. Might as well as they were only 30 Euros for the set.

Changed those as well, still nothing. Measured the voltage at the glow plugs and I had nothing. Gave it direct power from the battery and they shorted !

Still, even with spraying brake cleaner down the inlet manifold, it wouldnt start.

Removed an injector and cranked the car. The injector wouldnt spray.

To cut a long and frustrating story short, I found that there was a white/black wire on the injector pump, that was dead, while it was supposed to have 12v while cranking.

Gave that power directly and the car fired up immediately !!!

I had never seen such a thick black smoke in my life :jaw:

So, next on the list was to find out WHY that cable had no power, and why my injector pump wasnt doing that whining noise when the ignition was on.

Followed the fault all the way back to the ECU.

A second hand ECU in Cyprus would cost me 500 Euros !!! So I checked on ebay and I found it for less than 100, but I decided that before I order the other ECU, I should open up mine and see if theres anything visibly wrong.

I found a lifted power line and a fried diode, which I repaired and the ECU works perfectly now ! :)

I now took the car to an auto-electrician friend of mine, to figure out why there's no power on the glow plugs.

After that, a big service is in order and some body work :)

hahaha no worries mate, they made so many different variations of these, its no wonder people get confused :)

In other news , my auto-electrician friend called me. Someone was passing by his shop and stopped as he saw my Disco outside.
He asked if there were any parts needed for that car, as he is breaking one of the same. I called him and asked for a front left wing - been the same colour and all - and he said that he does and he only wants 50 Euros for it :D

Very happy about that ;)

Will call him again on Monday to go and pick it up, and see what else he has available that might suit me :)

Bit of an update.

The disco now starts and runs as it should. No weird noises , just worn brakes and very bad smell inside.

Got the 2 front wings and both indicators for 100 euro :)

Hoping ti replace them tomorrow afternoon.

The guy I bought the wings from, also has the bonnet and all 4 doors. I might get that bonnet coz mine is dented on one side , and re the doors, I need all 4 window motors and all 4 door cards so I will offer to buy the lot for 300. Good price ?

Just read through the thread tonight. It's amazing how the tone changed as soon as the motor started.

Well done for saving the old girl and once sorted she will give you many happy miles I'm sure.

Put your location in your profile.....

Yes dudes in Cyprus :p

Couple of questions guys :

1- in order to replace front wings, do I have to remove front bumper ?

2- does anyone have a picture of a bumperless disco 300 tdi ?

I also need a picture of the bonnet slam panel lock. I think mine is banged out of shape
