What you got to spend? 2500?? You can get one of the last 300 disco's - V8 LPG, there's one on eBlag now, looking at it myself, or you could perhaps get a TD5 disco2, if you want reliable, there's your answer - keep em maintained and they're fine from what I've heard, ask in the discovery forum, they'll know better, it's a while since the 'gas fired disco' went so I aren't completely in on that scene at the moment, but we're looking to get another one, the v6 go kart only does about 18mpg at the moment, the v8 disco did about 10mpg when driving it as hard as the freebie gets driven, difference being was the disco was 'gas fired' so it would do ni-on 200 miles for £35, rather than £60 going in a similar distance - and the disco would tow transit crew-cab tipper with 2x tonne bags of sand in the back and a trailer with a mini digger on better than the freebie - I know, had to recover the same guy twice (builder friend) because the transit is knackered, first time was the alternator belt snapped and the second time was the ECU decided to die - causing it to run on 1 cylinder. The freebie did it, but not half as well as the disco, plus the freebie only had to pull it 1/4 mile back to the yard, disco pulled it 40 odd miles without even so much as a judder.

At the end of the day its your choice, but don't abandon the freelander just because you have been influenced by the "anti-freelander tractor boys".

i'm not a great fan of hippos, thats very true - but all i am trying to do is to encourage the chap to get whoever sold it to him to sort the numerous faults out

if he'd have purchased a depender with issues i'd have made very similar comments

Hello landy luvver, For a start you've been talking to folk on here that hate freelanders and want them all burnt.

At the end of the day its your choice, but don't abandon the freelander just because you have been influenced by the "anti-freelander tractor boys".

Words to inspire! Well at least I know that the diesels are much better, hope is not lost. I'll be honest once I get that farm then I'll get a defender, however as a family car I do like the freelander. Stupidly choose a petrol one as need a vehicle urgently.

Landy Luvver I hope you get your problem sorted. It almost certainly sounds like a cv joint or link arm - not expensive and considered servicable items that need replacing on any car. Don't worry, get it to a freindly local garage and they will help.

Now to get on my high horse for my FIRST and LAST post. I even registered to say this and it is aimed at people Like Stupid Hat Man and Gay Fired Disco or whatever their names are.

I currently own a Freelander, a Range Rover, an Audi A4 and a VW Golf and I am an avid fan of forums and a member of the volks and audi forums which are ever so helpul, encouraging and a massive source of information to owners out that need help, advice, or just a place to chat.

Without doubt this is the most miserable, unhelpful and childish forum that I have ever come across and members like those above should be ashamed of themselves. You will find that a member that has an Audi A6 who doesn't particularly like A3's will still be respectful and helpful to a member with an A3 who needs advice. Not so here I see, just defamatory remarks of a playground nature.

Stupid Hat man - be aware:

1) Your grammar is awful. Please learn to spell when posting.
2) You are not helpful in any way to Freelander owners and should have no part in this or any forum. I believe you are a fool.

Enough Said. Cheers all

missing you already

oh and if you think your spelling mistakes weren't spotted ........

Mad Hat Man may be daft but he sure as hell aint stoopid.

The forum does get a hail of useless abuse from others, does wear a bit thin with constant p!ss take, but these tractor boys are just Big fish in a wee pond.

Outside of LZ they wouldn't stand a chance on other forums, they'd put in place by moderators or at least the forum members.

I agree with some of your comments above but as you only have one post and already parted company (1st & last), I won't comment further, no point in sticking my neck on the line for a one post wonder.

Is Roy happy in the way the forum is run, even the engine category for the Freelander is a p!ss take..... In brackets do they even have engines? The 1.8 petrol has more power than some V8 tractors, and will be all over the back of RR vogues.

LZ Doesn't look good to the mechanically challenged or prospective new members.

I fort MHM posted some advice :confused2: ... see post 3 :)

blurry eck - i post twice with wot was meant to be helpful advice :(
if thats considered unhelpful - wot is?

"Gaylanders, typically, do appear a bit like that on full lock, but it would be best to check underneath.

1) to check yu have all the props and VCU fitted.
2) the VCU is operating correctly (do the tippex test)
beeter still - get yo money back and get a doozil.."

I bow to yo knowledge NI (or Howardo) - do not Freelanders appear "tight" on full lock?
would it not be wise to check a new freelander has got all the props and to check the VCU works properly before it screws major components?
If he is having problems with a newly bought petrol motor, would it not be worth considering getting his money back?

and i fort i was polite about suggesting the :search: option.

worlds gorn soft.

Where, Howardo, on my posts do you come to the conclusion that "Hello landy luvver, For a start you've been talking to folk on here that hate freelanders and want them all burnt."

no need - i aint getting wound up about a pratt with one post. Landy Luvver asked for advice and that is what I gave. I dont hate freelanders, gaylanders, hippoos or freebies - having owned one, and being a (rather long in the tooth) certified??? injunear - I consider it to be appallingly designed and invariably badly put together. Peeps should be made aware of possible (or probable) problems. Go into ownership with yo eyes open. Yes Disco bodys rot like mad. Defender chassis and bulkheads rot like mad - that dont stop us owning em.
Just dont kid yoself they are beautifully crafted examples of British engineering at its best - they are certainly not! still - yu have to love em (sometimes).

Hey come on guys anyone with an ounce of sense can see that this is banter, mostly friendly! ha ha. In all fairness people who have replied to my posts know I ain't got a clue about anything on 4 wheels, but they are all still helpful. Some people just enjoy stirring things up!

Anyways freelander back at the garage I bought it from, being repaired. Wish I asked for a refund straight away, the guy comes across as a right d1(&! Hopefully can start enjoying it soon.

Quickly finding out about its drinking habit too, half a tank and only 150miles, thats driving carefully too!!!!!!!!!!
