Sounds more expensive to me. Scourers, you get a massive pack for a quid in Poundland!Scourer in the kitchen, sanding fleece when in the workshop. Sounds more tekinercall.

all your mates that can’t weld will endlessly as you if their rusty sh-ite can be welded.
When that happens you insist that they do all the prep work and give them a price list that is $ per inch of weld, it soon stops them bringing you anything that is not actually interesting
Sounds like i should learn to be a welder & get my tickets, I've just been made redundant due to covid so a good time for a career change! LolAnyway back to the ops question re finding a willing mech, conversation at work led to me to do some googling, search for hgv mechanics jobs Maidstone (as thats where I live), lowest was low 30k, and highest were over 50k (thats nights) obviously car mechs will be on less, but it wont be minimum wage so they may not be to keem to do private jobs as they can earn enough in their normal working week.
Days roughly 16/17 per hour, nights 19.50 to 21 per hour.
Good luck and hopefully no teeth suckingSounds like i should learn to be a welder & get my tickets, I've just been made redundant due to covid so a good time for a career change! Lol
For now, I found a local mobile mechanic who's coming later today.

Int @nobber from Watton traffic lights area?
Hi, I have a 1988 3.5l V8 110 & it needs some work doing for the MOT. I've tried but everything is too tight or its electrical (I know absolutely nothing about electrics)
My other half is working too much to help & just wants me to get rid of it!!!
My problem is every garage I've called either won't do it because its an "old Defender", have waiting list of months or want to charge me for looking at what needs doing when I already know! Oh & "they don't do welding!"
Does anybody know of a good, not extortionately priced mechanic in the Bungay area of Norfolk, UK? .

It sounds like finding a reliable mechanic for your 1988 3.5L V8 Defender is challenging. You may want to look for a Land Rover specialist or a classic 4x4 mechanic in the Norfolk area. Try asking on Land Rover forums or local 4x4 clubs for recommendations. You could also look for a mobile mechanic or welding shops that may be able to help with your MOT work. They might offer more affordable and knowledgeable services for your Defender. As suggested, ^^^^^^^^^^, ring Richard at Glencoyne, number is on the website. But don't expect it to happen in a hurry, he is always very busy.
I don't know anything about Bungay, but could PM you the number of a garage near Fakenham. They are known to me personally, and don't mind working on old stuff.
They are a nice family, and good at mechanical stuff, but also very busy, lead time is likely to be in the order of several weeks, and you may need to leave the vehicle there if the job is large. They have secure storage.
Usual garage prices, but labour tends to be reasonable as they are quite quick, and only charge for the time they are actually working on the vehicle. Range Rover mechanic
