Hey friends & family members.

Oky, so in the past my 2005 2lt freelander td4 has given me some problems where it struggles to start, whether it's in the morning or in the afternoon after picking the kids up from school, it only starts after two or three cranks. Then recently there's some random problem that appears only when I'm driving faster than 80kmph, it feels almost like a limp mode effect or if the engine swallow some air, then the speedometer, Rev counter and feul gage drops like if there's no power but then all the other lights on the dashboard comes o. Like the battery light, SRS light and engine light, the engine still runs but there's no power, I can give gas but there's nothing, only if I slow down again it all goes back to normal and then I can give gas again till over 80 or a 100 then it happens again.

Any case, so this week I had some free time to look around the engine and look what problems I can find, aii kinda went all out hahaha.....
Took the air manifold off, tapet cover, pulled out the injectors, removed some sensors and cleaned it all nicely, make sure all the connections are clean, cleaned the outside of the engine where ever I can etc etc.

Then started to put it all back together and ready ready to start, but now that's where the new problem starts.

Went through everything again and ended up at the glow plugs, testing testing testing and then realized that I'm not getting a 1011 or even 12 volts supply. I'll get something like 2.14 volts on the one point, 0.144 on the next one, 0.24 on the third one and something like 0.18 on the fourth one, which is obviously not right.

Then ended up at the relay that's on top at the fuse box, in the big L-shape box.
Tested over there and there I'll get my earth point, two cables that's got 12 volts and a thin one that I'll presume is the signal one that's send power back to the glow plugs, not to sure.

So I'm here to ask the wise fellows on the group to please share some advice and help me with these issues at hand.

Why am I not getting power to the glow plugs?
Is it a relay?
Otherwise where else can I check for something else?
Please help hahaha
And what's the issue with the freelander when I drive faster than 80k's?

Kind Regards fellas

Hey nodge
Thanks for your reply
Ive read previous post and searched Google regarding the glow plug issue and I've noticed that all of the results mention that the glow plugs warm up when it's cold. I honestly thought that the glow plugs will always warm up whether it's cold or not because the diesel needs that heed for combustion and then to start. I've had a colt bakkie in the past where one sees that coil light come on and off and then one can start the engine so with that I also thought that's how a diesel engine works.
Ive tested my glow plugs today by connecting 12volt to it and noticed that they weren't warming up, meaning they weren't working at all. With that I wonder then how the freelander previously started if none of the glow worked worked?

Ive ordered 4 new glow plugs plus a relay which I'll receive this evening and then I'll fit it and see what happens. Hopefully the car starts then.

The Freelander TD4 will start quite happily without working glow plugs. Diesel fires the fuel with compression, so doesn't need the plugs unless the temperature is below 0°C or so.

Oky that's quite cool and good to know.

Tell me, is there a sertain order the injectors must go back in or doesn't it matter which one goes where?

As I've mention before I pulled them out, took the covers off cleaned everything and put it back together, now for some reason I'm struggling to start the freelander.

Any suggestions on what I can check to see why it's doesn't want to start or what there is to do to get it started. Previously it did start but only after 2 or 3 cranks....

Really the injectors should go back where they came from, as the ECM will have there parameters memorised. Putting them back in different places means the ECM will have to relearn the parameters again.
