hi , i have tried to use the low range gears today but they wont work.
i have done everything by the manual but it wont switch over to low range, the lights just keep on flashing.
anybody know what icould be wrong or what i am doing wrong ?

i take it the vehicle is static when you did this?did you here a klunk from underneath the car when you tried? if there was no klunk it could be the motor on the transfer box underneath, they tend to go as they don,t get used that often,or it could be the gearbox ecu

i will give it a go in the morning thanks, will that possibly get the motor working ? my manual says not to change over at any speed.
i will do some searching on the transfer box motor.

then i would say the motor has gone,as you look up at the transfer box towards the rear of the car you will see the motor i think only 3 bolts hold it on with a big multi plug,i think a new one is about £150

i tried driving at 2-3 mph and change into low range gears but it didnt work, looks like i will try and get a second hand motor, are they easy to remove and fit ?

im not sure i,ll have a look on the rave, seeing as you live in the same town as me,we,ll have to organsie having a look at it;)

that would be great, i also have the auto box oil and filter change to do and lift pump to replace, oh and a engine oil and filter change !
i bet you wish you kept quiet haha.

Are you defo using the gears properly before going fixing stuff?
i did everything exactly according to the manual.
while stationary i depressed to gear lever button to stage 2 and moved it across to low range and waited for the lights to stop flashing which they did not until i moved it back over to high range.

thanks, i will pm you on a day and time best for you to see if you can get low range.
i would of thought that these motors would be easy to free up and repair once removed ??

ok will do, if need be i could do all these jobs myself as i have alot of tools and im handy with a spanner, but a helping hand from someone who knows more about the p38 than me would be great.
oh i forgot i am still trying to locate a second hand transfer box motor so if yours goes missing you know where to look !
