No drive and no oil pressure

I have been offered a project FL which according to the owner's description has two main problems :

- Engine oil pressure light won't go out after the engine is started (K-series engine).
- No drive neither forwards nor backwards with gear engaged and clutch released.

I believe I can just unscrew the oil pressure switch to determine whether there is oil pressure present or not. If OK, it must be an electrical problem.

The drive problem may be clutch related possibly or could it be a broken gearbox input shaft ?

Any suggestions?

Hi Jonaf

it could just be the oil pressure switch at fault, they break internally, renew it.

the drive problem could be anything, but you could check to see if the clutch slave cylinder is mounted correctly

I called the owner and asked him about how the problem occured. He told me they lost drive while towing a horse trailer. He assumed that the clutch was broken and had it replaced. This did not cure the problem so it seems more than likely that the fault lies either in the gearbox or the IRD.

I presumed you were talking about the TD4 so I suggested that it could have been the dual mass flywheel and referred you to the honest john web site then I re-read your post and saw that you have the K series. As you probably know anyone who posts about K series problems usually gets a few negative posts, the term water and a ducks back comes to mind
