Hi Im new to Range Rover ownership as from 3 days ago
I had a Discovery Td5 and swapped it for a very nice L322 vouge 02 plate, its a td6 with 112,000 on the clock full history and new auto box fitted 10,000 miles ago:)
the problem i have is this weekend the dredded Air suspension inactive came on and the light on the control stays on, tried the steering side to side to reset and disconected battery etc but not solved it, what are the next steps i need to take? also the steering adjustment up and down doesnt work on the stalk the in and out works ok.

any suggestions would help, the car sales I bought the car off did give me a 1 month warranty on major parts only could the Air suspension be classed as a major part?

If the lights have remained on on the control switch, this indicates a 'Soft' fault....

The L322 (and P38) have two distinct fault 'modes'....Hard and Soft.

A Hard Fault is when the system can no longer determine the vehicle height, or be able to maintain it safely so it switches the system off and lowers the vehicle to a safe height.

A Soft Fault is when the vehicle knows what the ride height is, but it can't maintain it or thinks the reading it is getting from the/a height sensor(s) are not correct so it levels the vehicle to Standard and tries to maintain that (sometimes it will relevel itself to maintain a set ride height).

A soft fault can be a dicky Height Sensor, Tired and Weak COmpressor that can't produce enough air to raise the vehicle or a leak in the system

Only way to tell is to get it onto diagnostic to read the fault codes.

Depending on what has failed in the Air Suspension will determine what is considered a major part!

As for the Steering wheel movement, the system is very fragile and can break at the drop of a hat....sometimes to prevent movement, people unplug the motors to prevent them from breaking...or it could be broken itself...without wishing to scare you, a replacement steering column is £800-£1000 and a ballache to fit....if you can live with it, don't worry about it....but it could just be unplugged!

IMO: Both steering and suspension are major parts, i would go back to seller and have it sorted, no charge ofcourse

Cheers for the replys
How noisy should the pump be when its pumping? i went test driving some other Rangys before I bought this one some sounded quite loud when pumping this one I have when it was running was very quiet is this normal or a pointer that its goosed?

if the pump is really loud its probably worn out.

when running you should just be able to hear the noise it makes whilst inside the cab

Sounds like mine could be ok
tell you what was strange before the "Air suspension inactive" message the 1st message was " tailgate open" which it wasn't as it had been locked. then this morning a message flashed up "HDC inactive" and I have had "Check Coolent level" flash up a couple of times. im begining to wonder if i have a dodgy ECU or some other electrickery??

ohhhh

3 letters... BCM

(body control module)

might be worth getting it plugged in on some diagnostics

in any case, now your an L322 owner you should get yourself some diagnostic equipment. it can be a very important part of your tool kit if your interested in conducting your own DIY repairs on your car

Hdc inactive could be because you disconnected the battery....did you reset h steering angle sensor when you reconnected the battery by turning full lock left then full lock right and back to centre??
HDC flashed up before I disconected the battary and yes ive done the full lock to full lock, the good news is I rang the car dealer this morning and he will have the car in the garage this week and will sort it.

if HDC inactive flashes up when starting the car then the battery is on the way out, this can also throwup lots of odd little messages for stuff that theres nothing wrong with.
As for the suspension you need to read the fault if its " reservoir pressure static when filling" then its either the compressor worn out, a leak somewhere ,or the valve block on the reservoir coroded inside (thread on here somewhere about that). aquick fix for the compressor is a new piston ring for £20 off ebay or about £250-300 for a new compressor.

OK quick update
Took it back to dealer they said it was a poor battery which they charged and reset error codes and all was well for about 24hrs then message again Air Susp inactive. so today I have bought a new battery off a mate who is a battery dealer the message is still there im guessing I have to get a reader and reset error codes again? be good if the new battery solves this problem the thing is when its working its quiet and works great.

I used to have the same recurring problem with mine ,in the end the garage remapped the air sus and I haven't had a prob since,:) touch wood

Right might be getting to the bottom of this went to a mates garage after fitting new fully charged battery today and we put his reader in to the socket and this is what it came up with so any ideas on a solution would be very welcome

code 116 message read "RESERVIOUR PRESSURE STATIC WHEN FILLING".
what does this mean and what do I need to do to solve the problem??

Has all faults been reset and cleared with suitable tool?
Remember to check for faults again after reset.

What tool is used?

Sounds like its telling you the pressure in tank is static ie bad leak or faulty pump.

Saint.V8 will be along shortly to explain this i'm certain, i would try, but my incompetence would likely ruin your car.

one of mine had the same issue. i think it was a valve that could have dirt in it or something.. but on mine, cleared the error & it never came back.
