Anyone familiar with this way of removing the matrix WITHOUT DASH REMOVAL? Or removed using the method described. Does it make sense for those who know the set up?
Extract from 4 x 4 site:
... I found out the heater matrix was leaking, this must have been leaking a while and had Radweld in, me changing the antifreez brought the problem back ...... this is what i did.
1. first bypass the matrix under the bonnet (car can still be driven)
2. remove 4" flexy from heater
3. remove 2" pipe to window screen dimister under dash
4. remove the large black plastci moulding vent by unbolting the mounts by the carpet,
5. remove the glove box
you now have good access
6. remove 2 screw from the side of matrix
7. remove screw from pipe retainer on matrix
8. with a large set of cutters ,squash and cut through the damaged matrix pipes.
9. pullpipes out from under the bonnet,
10, slide matrix out of the heater
this has taken 15min and the matrix is out,
now on the new matrix be careful and cut the main pipes off , leaving enough straight to get a hose on and a clip. make 20 flexy hoses up to the original length of the matrix pipe, you should now have matrix 2 flexy pipe with solid pipes at the other end,
refit the matrix
1. slide matrix back in heater
2. bend the flexy hose so you can poke the solid ends back through the bulk head,
3. refit side cover on matrix
4. refit glove box
5. refit heater pipes
6. connect pipes under bonnet
7, sit back with engine running and a cup of tea while it all get warm ,
All done max time an hour and no dash out (thanks to Mick)...
