Hi All,
Can I firstly say what an excellent job you guys are doing. I have just purchased a 4.0 SE P38 and it has a few foibles that I'm working through.
I neeed to ask a couple of questions and then I'll explain my experience of landrover dealers over a very common problem.
1. Can anyone recommend a particular brand of oil for using in my Rangie, its the GEMS unit.
2. Can anyone recall a product that was on sale years ago, but seems to have disappeared. It resembled a round cage like structure that you could attach to your wheels, using the wheel studs. You could then attach a rope and use the wheels to "wind" you out of a sticky situation. They came in pairs so that the load was spread evenly. I fear they have disappeared due the health and safety world we live in, but I work in West Africa and have access to a 110. I need something basic and durable.
Sorry to ramble on, but now to my recent experience:
I was suffering the dreaded overnight flat battery. After reading your forums and doing the relevant checks it turned out that my wirless internet was keeping my rangie awake all night, until it collapsed of "exhaustion".
Was straight onto my two dealers to order the upgraded rf receiver - and was treated like a dumb leper. Oh no they said, never heard of that, nonsense one said, you will have to bring it in and remortgage your house so we can fleece you!!.
A quick technical explanation, using all the facts from the forum, and the fact that I'm an electronics engineer, had them apologising and saying that I had done more than they would. They would just have ad-libbed and changed parts on spec.
Hunts Grange sorted me out though, very helpful. They even explained that my two local dealers could have told me the exact locations of every available upgraded receiver worldwide as all landrover dealers have access to the same database.
keep up the good work and together we will show that running these beasties is not as expensive as people make out.
