Hello all and apologies for this being my second post! 
I'm here because I know little about LR's but want to own one and want to get to know a lot before I do. So will be reading a lot of threads and maybe asking some questions.
I am 39, an archaeologist just finishing my post grad studies. Hoping to start my own business in a specialised field related to archaeology. One requirement for this will be to own a 4x4 as a lot of sites are on farmland and require driving over fields etc. My current Xsara Picasso isn't up to the job!
I have access to a modern Corsa, so I am slightly flexible in the LR I get, e.g. if it was my only car I might have to look at a Freelander, but it's not so I can look at the classic or more 'utility' models. I want something I can use but also that I can get to know and care for, unlike modern cars.
I have owned a 1973 MGB and also a 1974 cal-look VW Beetle, so I have had experience of shall I say less comfortable and sometimes idiosyncratic vehicles. I want the car to be an extension of my personality and also something that will stick my business in peoples minds ("oh so and so, isn't he the one with the lovely old Land Rover?").
I was originally thinking Defender but they seem to be really expensive still even on really high mileages (I know they go forever), but I like the look of the Series models as they have a certain charm and character.
Anyway, having bored everyone I'll sign off.
