I'm wanting to dip my toe into Laning, I've got the maps and located a few places. Should I be doing this on my own. Or get involved with others, if so how, where what why etc. Any advice welcome (West Yorkshire, Wakefield)

Don't go alone, as yet you don't know the capabilities of you LR (or you).

Have a look in the green laning section and see if there's a group in your area.

Look at Paul D post in this section on finding lanes. Just because they are on maps does not mean they are legal.

A good source of info is trailwise TrailWise FAQ Although the information available is limited unless you are a member of GLASS (Green Lane Association)

Its not a good idea to go laning on your own, much better to join a group with an experienced leader.

There used to be trips going out regularly in the West and North Yorkshire threads on here, but that seems to have stopped recently.

Thanks for all the info. I've tried looking for groups that are going out, but don't seem to be finding any. I guess I'll keep looking as I'm not up for going out alone. I don't want to go anything too rough, just a nice run out in the country side etc, and obvioulsy get a little muddy

Speak to Justin Brown or Sue W at GLASS - there are a number of different Facebook pages where they tend to get organised, and other threads on Landyzone.

Often once you make contact people are more than willing to show a newbie the ropes.....

LOL Paul, you should start again.

We had a fantastic day laning on Saturday. Took a photographer from Total Off Road magazine with us too :D

I may live to regret this and I'm taking no responsibility for you but...

I have a friend who has just bought his first Landy and I'm giving him a crash course on driving off Tarmac on the 29th. Before we do the bastard Strata and some of mid Wales other finest lanes in April.

If you can cope with the hour and a half drive then you can tag along.

I have a short route including a little taster of most things you'll come across bar tippy bits.

Thanks very much for your offer, appreciate it. But after reading a lot of people's comments, it's looking like I need to build up a bit of experience before I venture out. May have to go to a off road centre or something.

Thanks
