Hi, Im new to the forum but not new to Land Rovers...driven many but this is the first time Ive actually owned one!! No REME support this time if anything goes wrong!!

I picked her yesterday, purchased from a very nice chap in S.Wales. Took 3 hrs to drive back to Plymouth at a steady 65mph. No issues at all and she ran like a dream and pulled well.

Shes a 1994 110 Defender FFR 2.5 n/a, 51k on the clock, 12 months MOT and 12 months tax. Disposed through Withams in 2012. Unfortunately the DVLA kept the disposal cert when the chap registered it so I have no info on its previous unit etc.

I payed less than £3k as she looks a bit scruffy with its umpteen layers of paint. That can be sorted no problem. The main areas ie: chassis, bulkhead, interior and mechanics are spot on. The chassis is excellent with no signs of rot anywhere...I used a crawler board and torch for a thorough inspection when I went to look at her first time.

Ive sourced a straight 2nd hand bonnet from a TD5 that will go straight on and Ive got a near mint set of Exmoor Techno trim front seats. A set of wolf wheels and a repaint in NATO Satin green and she'll be good to go!!

Theres still lots of FFR bits...but Ill be taking most of them out...they'll be safely stored away...throw nothing away it will come in handy one day!!

Well I hope you like her...shes scrubbed up really well today..plenty of elbow grease!!

Let the fun begin :)

Hi OP,

Yours must be a posh FFR, mine did not come with a Henry.

The FFR electrics to the bulkhead are worth keeping if your planning on adding any extra electrics. I hooked up the genertor end of the wiring to the starter + and added an extra fuse and relay box to the bulkhead for my extras.

If you have the military reg, you can get the history for nothing. Just send an email as below to [email protected].

I am requesting the following information under Freedom of Information Act.

Information on the use of and service history of ex-military vehicle MILITARY REG, specifically from MERLIN and JAMES. This vehicle is now in my private ownership.

Thanks,

Very nice - You should invest in a better steering lock though. That current one looks pretty feeble!

Cheers guys for your kind and useful comments! The security measures are a bit feeble but they are only tempary. I ordered a clutch claw and a disclok but they didnt arrive in time! Should be here today..Im also having a few secret switches fitted.

Ill be taking the radio bench out andthe terminal box as I want to mount the spare wheel onto the rear bulkhead. Everything that comes out will be kept safely up in the loft!

Cheers Spook,

I do have the military reg number..the plates were in the back and its stamped in the data plate. Do I just copy and paste from "I am requesting..." What is the significance of MERLIN and JAMES?!

Cheers. Andy.

MERLIN and JAMES are military systems used to manage and maintain equipment. Not sure why they were mentioned at all . I'm on JAMES now and for the record its ####ing ****
