I've just purchased my long awaited landy-a freelander1. After a few niggles (new gearbox, fly wheel, water pump etc) I'm now onto tyres. I'm running 195/80r15 on front & 205/70r15 on rear, all at 40psi. Help needed please as I've been told I should be running the same size all around, at 30psi- though when I've dropped them down, they look flat as a pancake. Apparently I run the risk of damaging the transmission. Please can you guys/girls help advise me o. Tyre size and pressure. My wife is all for selling the Landy after all the niggles- the last thing I want to do!

YES. All 4 wheels all same make of tyre and all the right size.
Newest tyres to the rear.

Freelander vcu are a bit funny about different sizes tyres and you don't have much room to play about with. Have a search on here and you will see.

I you can't afford tyres now then remove the propshaft and run 2wd

Pressures should be around the 30psi mark depending on load and tyre make. Some tyres get on better with lower pressure

And make sure you run over to introduce yourself section. It's only polite ;)

It's important to run with tyres that are the same size all round.
The transmission is designed to work with a maximum diameter difference of 5mm. By my calculations your tyres are around 25mm different from each other.
If you haven't noticed any transmission faults so far you won't be far off causing seriously expensive damage to the VCU, IRD and diff.

What about ye Jim........................Look it's Jim everyone

As you were advised, front tyres are the correct size,
not unless you have slicks on the front and full 12mm tread on the rear?
