New landy owner in need of help

Hi Everyone
I’m about to take delivery of my first landy (series 3 truckback) but have a problem. I have tried to apply for tax so I can insure it but the online system is trying to charge me £280, even though it’s obviously exempt. The landy is currently SORN but I can’t see how this has any influence. Has anyone had any experience of this? The DVLA are currently unavailable due to strike action!

Maybe pop down your local post office?

I’m very confused by it. The only thing I can think of is that it’s currently SORN although I don’t know why that should affect things.

As far as I'm aware you don't need to tax it to get it insured. But it needs to be insured to get it taxed. If it has been on SORN for a number of years it might not yet have been declared historic/exempt. Have you got the V5c to check the taxation class?
 
I think you may be correct. I’ve read that I can pay to tax it and when my new log book arrives easily register it for tax and mot exemptions. The dvla will then refund me whats left on the tax, if they come out of being on strike!! Thanks a lot for your help guys

I am not sure on the paying for tax bit, but if you do have to pay for it do so monthly then it is simple to cancel with no need to speak to the dvla.
 
When mine reached its historic status age, I had forgoten about it and taxed it as usual. The DVLA wrote to me saying it was now exempt and refunded the money and sent me a new V5 with the new historic status included. It was the first time I was impressed with the DVLA
