Sterling work. Really. Can't believe I just found this thread, Steve. Loads of great work and plenty of inspiration for me. I am very envious of your workspace :)

Just a bit of cosmetic tidying today. Driver's side speaker grill was rusty so door cards off and speaker grills sprayed satin black.

Fitted some front mudflaps and touched up a bit of bodywork and it is pretty much done (for now).

Been using the Landy for commuting for a few weeks now and going very well. Working out a lot cheaper to run than my Subuaru Outback. Found a few small issues still to sort. A few bulbs in the dash and heater controls needed to be replaced but easily sorted. Fitted a rear wiper but motor seems very weak so will need to look at that. Also rear demister not working. The cheap Chinese head unit that Colin had fitted seems to be on the way out as starting to take ages to wake up when the power is switched on.

At least head units are cheap as chips. If you were closer, you’d be more than welcome to have the one cluttering up my garage for nowt

Gave the Freelander a good run this weekend over to Garrison in Fermanagh. Had one mishap. Stopped in Belleek on Saturday afternoon for a wander and just after starting her up again to leave it cut out and then suddenly there was diesel all over the floor, gushing out in front of the offside rear wheel. Was obviously coming from the fuel pump (which is thankfully nice and accessible under the offside rear wheel arch liner from late 2002 onwards). Pulled the rear wheel off and the liner back to find the fuel pipe had popped off the pump. Pushed it back and and seemed to click into place and been fine since.

Nice field repair. At least you were stationary at the time. Presumably a no birds were harmed in the diesel slick ;)

Looks like the used diff I fitted is more worn than I thought. Getting increasingly whiney on the motorway. Now do I go for another used one, bite the bullet and buy a reconditioned one or try and rebuild the one I have myself?

Stuck another used diff in yesterday (lot easier to do second time around, especially as all the bolt are copperslipped now) and with great relief it passed the Northern Ireland MOT this evening. Things are looking up.

Happy days. Bask my friend, bask. It's very nice not having to fight rusty bolts on every job.
