hello, i'm dale. i have a few old toys. 81 fiesta, 63 100e and just sold my 76 dolomite. i drive a more modern mercedes daily. i dont yet own a land rover. mainly because i'm hearing so many mixed opinions so i though its best to ask those in the know.

I want a 3.9 vogue SE. just because dad had a few when i was younger and i've admired them ever since. now i'm in a postion to be able to insure one (21) wouldn't mind ditching the merc and having the range rover as a daily. now with it being a 3.9 economy is obviously not a strong point. so i'll get one on LPG.

i've heard they aren't very reliable. money pits. they rot. etc etc. help! opinions on LPG? i'll be looking at one under 100K miles. service history.

Dale.

lol. is this were you tell me that i'm dreaming if i think i could daily one of these :(

The reason this, and other forums exist (apart from taking the ****) is to pool and share knowledge so that where possible dealers and mechanics at extortionate prices can be avoided...

Finding a landy with full service history will be a challenge unless you have very deep pockets...even then it will break down. Good luck and welcome.

i appreciate honesty :D i know service history is a lot to ask. just thought i'd go about this best i could. i bought my merc with no history and thats been (touch wood) fine.

i drove the fiesta daily and that broke weekly but it was always peanuts and dead easy to fix.

when you say break down. whats common?

Hi Dale, I run a 4.0 v8 Disco 2 on lpg as my everday car and i have no complaints....I do know all of the staff at my local filling station by first names now but wot the hell..Its a Landrover and dont you just love em.

hi dave. what sort of miles do you get out of it to say £20. i know if i need to ask that i shouldn't be buying a V8 but i really want one.

planing to keep the merc now and sell one of the oldies so the range will be for runs. not so much round town... (i say that now) :D

cheers for the welcome guys

Hi Dale, you are right about the comment if asking about fuel consumption you shouldn't be getting 1:). But to put your mind at ease......I never let my lpg run empty and fill it back up when just 1 light showing. This works out usually about £28-£29 and for that i get between 125-140 miles...Works out as an equivilent 27ish mpg around town but on a run she is alot better 160-175 miles equates to around 33mpg.
I only did this comparison as i have a 1995 2.0mpi on lpg as well and just wanted to see what the differences were for my own peace of mind.
The lad down the street from me has a 1997 Disco 3.9 v8 on lpg for sale:D

Hope this helps.

Dave

io got a defender with 100k on the clock, full dealer service history etc...

still ..

it had stuff that would curl your hair up..

rounded filler plugs.beasted nuts bolts and brackets everywhere and a rear cross member that was in no means suitable for mot......

buy a private wagon from a forum member and you will probably do better than i did on the forecourt........:D

I genuinely couldnt believe the state of some of the running gear ffs.....:mad:

cheers dave! :D

thats the same figure i was given. around the 30 mpg mark. which is good, thats what the Mercedes returns.

thats some bad news with the defender, i will be taking some people clued up on landrovers with me to help but its all a bit of luck. with the dolomite. it looked clean receipts for lots of work.. re-con engine 6 months earlier. after driving it a month discovered a lot of problems..

i will be keeping an eye on the for sale section ;)
