Not if it's out of diff lock it won't

yep, out of diff is even worse.

the planet gears are designed for low speed differences. if one is completely locked and the other spins then it'll kill the box rapidly.

which is why you are meant to stick it in diff lock if there is a chance of wheel spinning

Where the hell do you get a TX box for £90? Not to mention the labour on top if you can't do it yourself.

However if the thief does not know this device is fitted, doesn't remove the prop then attempts to drive away surely thats going to put undue pressure on the box/shaft?

I got mine for 95, including new bearings etc... Fitted them myself, fitted box myself et voila. Cheap box. And ive seen them for 70 or so.
Of course the thief shouldn't know that it's fitted. As I said, even if the box gets wrecked in the process it's a damn sight easier to replace/repair than having your whole motor stolen. I know which option I would choose. It's not an ideal solution but it works and it stops it being driven away even if the vehicle is started

Edited to add: I've just realised that I've been a mong. Vehicle won't drive with a prop off unless it's in diff lock. With diff lock on that contraption will prevent it from turning. The vehicle won't move unless it's really really forced so it's effectively operating as a handbrake for the transfer box.
Yes it will due to the diff in the Tbox, just like when you get one wheel on an axle in the air, the diff will turn the end with least resistance.

I would like to see more of the workings of this to see how they warrant in the region of £600. Is the drum replaced with a different drum, that may have some sort of indexing on the inside for the rat trap mechansim to bite onto. I have thought about one of these for my series. But I would like to know a lot more info about them first.

For someone with general knowledge of land rovers. If some scoundrel wants to nick a Landy with this rat trap fitted. There's no need to crawl under and unbolt the prop.
If running on steels, then all they need to do is to whip out the bolts from the halfshaft flanges and push or tow the vehicle away.

Why not contact them and have a chat.
Yes I think it is way over priced to be honest.
Agreed you can unbolt a drive flange, but if they do have to unbolt the prop it isn't easy to get at all the bolts in one position.
I think it's a good idea and it can't be seen, fit's in well with the layered protection method advised.
If the thief can't see it and tries to set off it's going to make a bang (hopefully wake you up) and I somehow don't think said thief is going to hang about to see what's stopping it.
But then back to the start again, the price is just ridiculous.

I figure it might be OK if you are doing a ground up resto job, and incorporate it into your plans and spends, but in terms of a straight purchase to beef up security - a bit on the spicy side.
