Yep, I got it the wrong way round
The standard Range Rover P38 spring piston widens towards the top, effectively stiffening the spring rates as vehicle height increases. This gives a harder ride off road and a softer one at freeway speeds -- the opposite of what is needed. On the new Mk III, spring piston design has sensibly been modified to reverse this situation, giving softer spring rates in high profile and stiffer rates in low. This makes a lot more sense.

I've always been very impressed with the way the Rangie moves between metalled roads and off-road. I'd be interested to compare and see how much difference it really makes.

Have never driven one on Arnotts so don't know. But i fitted a new set of standard Dunlops and Boge shocks a couple of years ago and the difference in handling compared to the old bags and shocks was seriously improved. I don't do off road other than mildly wet grass and the occasional pavement. Unless you count my drive which is a bit of a challenge to most vehicles.

Yes so did i, then when i fitted the new shocks it improved even more.
