Mystery Wobble

They should be free on each axis with no play across the cruciform.

Yep that's how they are, anyway, the shaft's off now so will replace them, shame, I hate doing jobs like this on the drive, I will get my specialist to do the rear.

So I guess back to square one on the wobble diagnosis.....

Thanks anyway Keith

Do they tighten up when you pump grease into them? If not they are getting near there use by date.:)

No and actually one is leaking on one cap so I guess they are best replaced.

It doesn't feel like a out of balance tyre, it's morel like a harmonic wobble

Thanks of the replies, hopefully will refit the lot tomorrow

On that point I assume you have checked that your harmonic dampers are still attached to your difffs. Probable been covered but I don't want to go back over 5 pages of posts.:D

Hi yes not been mentioned, but yep all good in that dept, general consensus was the UJ's.

Given the condition of the UJ's I can't see it being the problem, no big deal just a bit of aggro for me to replace them another cold hour or so under the car tomorrow

Hi Everyone

So having replaced my UJs, the old ones were pretty much like new unfortunately, I still have this strange harmonic wobble that you can feel at 60mph

Having eliminated the ujs and I am sure it is not tyres as it just doesn't feel like that, does anyone have any idea, what else it could be

Thanks and apologies for the repeat question, would really like to get this sorted

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be an out of shape tyre, swap front to the back and see if it changes.

as I said in post 7 when my passenger seat started gyrating around like a disco dancer on crack at 60 mph, it was a front tyre that had worn out of shape.balancing had no effect, but you could run the palm of your hand over the tread and you could feel that the tread blocks were not flat.

Ok thanks, will do, it just doesn't feel like tyres, I thought that was old hat these days with modern balancing equipment.

Strangely, the rear nearside Pirelli destroyed itself for no apparent reason after about 5k miles

Thanks for the advice

You cannot balance out a defective tyre.

So my guys have had it for a few days now and apparently the rear prop shaft was not great, a bit of movement on the UJ and the coupling was in a bit of a mess so that has been changed but the main problem they have found was that the VC was shot, so they have replaced the whole transfer box with a second hand unit that they tell me has low miles and a service history.......I am taking them at their word as they have always been pretty straight in the past in dealings with me.......hoping I now have a wobble free car!!

Nothing like making a big job out of a small job:rolleyes:

Yes I know what you mean, but remember I had a real struggle, like huge amount of torque, to get the prop to turn when I was doing the UJ's

Jamesmartin did say this a couple of pages back...........I think I was in denial
