Ok Thanks Dave, have bought the bolts any tips on replacing the UJ's?

Keith, no evidence of any rust, I guess they are due a renew anyway

Look on Youtube i am sure there will be a video on there. Easier to watch how it's done than to follow a description. Pretty simple task.

I changed my front one on the side of the road in Ngorno Kharaback and it took me an hour with a couple of spanners circlip pliers and a hammer instead of a vice

Sometimes I wonder if you make these place names up.

Don't worry, it's jealousy.
:D

A very merry Christmas to all you experts out there, hope you had a good one.

So having spent most of the day on my drive fitting new front brake gear I turned my attention to the UJ's in the hope of curing my wobble.....

Just a couple of questions please.

The front wheels are off the floor and one is chocked car in Neutral and hand brake off as I am turning the front wheel to turn the propshaft the amount of force I am using is extreme and the car is now lurching as the rear wheels attempt to drive it, quite scary as it's on axle stands.......what am I doing wrong, apart form not taking it to my specialist......

Is my VC Knackered

I must say the nuts and bolts I've removed all seem quite new and the UJ's look in good nick, hate to go through all this effort and it not be the problem

I know it's hard to tell from my crappy out of focus shots but.......they look ok

Do it with the hand brake and on one front off the ground, it should be just possible to turn the wheel with a lot of constant pressure.

Thanks Keith, that worked.

Got the shaft off and the UJs are slack on the axis but there is no movement on on the bearings surely not enough to cause my mystery wobble........?

Slack on the axis:confused: There should be no play in the UJ's at any angle.
Any play and the prop will wobble about like the proverbial in a bucket.

Sorry, I didn't explain that properly, there's no "slack" per se, they are just floppy not stiff but in the direction that they should be if that makes sense. would that cause vibration?
