Fett,

The very early LR engines were as Ragtag say a BL derivative but that in turn was a derivative of the BUICK engine (whos BLOCK, by the way was originally cast by ...................................FORD!!!)....But that is goin Way way way back into the sands of time ect !!!!

Hmmm interesting.

Maybe I could come and see it sometime. So it hasn't got a number in the block?

yeah no probs mate, just drop me a text when you want to come.

have you ever pressure washed your engine? I dont want to fook mine but its clean on the inside and dirty on the outside

and not many people know the design was by bmw and taken by the yanks as war reperations after ww2:D

rpi poo pooed my lumenition for lpg :(

Well, as Mandy Rice-Davies once said, "They would say that wouldn't they":D

My experience of RPI is that everything they sell is the best thing since sliced bread and everything they don't sell is sh1t. (in their opinion). Did they suggest that yu will need their A/R amp by any chance?

At the end of the day, a distributor is just a device to trigger the coil into delvering a nice fat juicy spark at the right time. Moving away from points/condenser is a good move but, fwiw, I think Luminition will be fine unless your dizzy is worn out.

Cheers

Chris

FETT,

I 100% agree with Chris on this ..... movin away from "Points" ect is gonna be a REAL GOOD MOVE ... Stuff RPI as Chris said if THEY don't make it then its **** (In THEIR OPINION!!!) ....

I changed to lumentation on my old MGB Roadster ... FOOKIN CRACKIN it was...I got sick to fed up of carryin "Feeler Gauges" in me arse pocket.

& while yer at it ... Go put 1 (or even 2) Kenlowe fans on it with an adjustable stat & get rid of the VC fan ......

You will NEVER REGRET IT MATE .....HONEST!!!!!

Oh! & the job hunt continues ................Still !!!!.....

don't want to start an argument so if by Ford you mean GM, I'd have to agree:D

Cheers

Chris

Well sort of Chris, the Buick engine was a GM engine but the original Block was a derivative of the old Ford V8 Flat-Top (In the 61 Mercury) ...

there was all **** & hair flyin back then when Ford accused GM of "Stealing their design" ect ect .....

If yer in the Ford "camp" then GM "Stole" the design if yer in the GM "Camp" then its an original GM design....

so if yer want we can

1. Phone a friend

2. Take 50/50

3. Ask the audience.

:D:D:D:D:D:eek::eek::cool::cool::p:p:p

Bloody hell, you learn summat new everyday. I thought a Flat Top was an aircraft carrier.:D:D:D

as far as I know the story is:

bmw design taken by yanks after ww2 as reperations.

used by buick/gm but not favoured by the public-too small and not made of iron.

found by rover man outside a boatshed and rights bought.

adapted to rover manuafuctre by fitting press fit steel liners- thanks a bunch

put in every british car needing a cheap v8 :D

I have started quite the thread lol, anyone know the story of my engine though ?? lol :p

You certainly have:D

I have not heard/read Claw's disputed design story before, maybe that's why Ford bought LR.....to get their engine back.

I'm not having the BMW theory though, where does that come from?

On second thoughts, maybe the 'M' stamped on your engine stands for Messerschmitt:D

Anyway, we're the winners. Rover would never have developed their own V8, they didn't have the funds. Can you imagine a rangie with a Stag unit......

Cheers

Chris

lol its fact I am afraid , widely accepted in bmw circles (yes I have a hidden past lol) and I cant see anyone wanting to own up to the rover v8 unless they could help it lol :D
