54 years has taken its toll, and either major repairs or replacement is required.
Autosparks would seem to be the go to solution, but are they as good as they're made out to be ?
Too many times have I been promised a top quality product, only to end up with something barely adequate.
Is there any real alternative to Autosparks, other than building my own harness ?
 
Got the full all singing all dancing loom from auto sparks.
Still trying to find time to fit it.
Seems a quality product for a fair price.
Put it this way, it would cost me triple in time and money to make it myself.
My only complaint is that the wires are not labelled.
Colour coding is fine, if you are not colour blind, which I am 🤣

Yes, the headlights, dipswich, and rear chassis sections are all add on extras, if I'm reading it correctly.
Fair enough.
What didn't impress me is their extra charges for upgrades.
Like an extra £54 for a harness made to take an ACR type Lucas alternator rather than the standard dynamo and control box.
Seems like a lot more to pay for a harness that probably costs less to make.
£33 extra for some extra wiring for a radio ?

I see where you are coming from, but I always look at it from the viewpoint of can I make it as well for the same money or less?
Plus you are paying for the convenience factor.
I'm also guessing they are using experienced operatives who these days are in short supply for this type of skill and command a wage that reflects that?

Their website mentions "braided outer covering", is this the same as the cloth covering on the originals ?
I'm assuming that all the connectors used are high quality not the cheapo Chinese rubbish.
 
Definitely not braided, I'd say wrapped in tape.
As for connections, they don't feel cheap and nasty, but as far as their origin of manufacturing?

That's a bit naughty if that ain't what they're selling.
I know that it's still possible to get the original cotton braided type harnesses, because they still sell them for British motorcycles, and they're new repro items, not NOS originals.
Here are their specs for Series 2A Diesel 88", suffix D to H

The wiring behind the binacle on mine was in bad condition. It has been replaced with a main wiring harness from auto sparks. I would bite the bullet and get one.
